Ordering a custom ASM set. Arguments for/against custom labeling?
I have my fantasy set completely planned out and ready to go.
http://www.ph-online.net/badugiclub.jpg
I've been holding back on my first purchase for a very obvious reason: budget restraints. I REALLY want these bad boys, and will do as much work as necessary to get my hands on them, but the fact still remains that they cost a fortune. I could save some good money by purchasing them without inlays, then adding them later, but I don't want to sacrifice a good quality product to save a few hundred bucks.
Advice? I know nothing about getting them actually labeled. Do people typically go this route for ASMs to save money?

Although it would be cheaper to get labels instead of inlays, not all the molds have a recess deep enough to take a label, especially a laminated label. Also, by the time you purchase the labels, are you really saving enough to pass up the opportunity to get genuine inlays?
You could consider purchasing fewer chips in your first order (e.g., just enough for a cash or tournament set) and add on as you can afford it. Add-ons are very popular around here.

The MINIMUM order is a huge financial investment for me. :P Mainly because I want to buy chips for five denominations.

My take on it is that if you get enough chips to play with, you'll be shelling out a goodly sum either way. I wouldn't want to shell out a goodly sum to get chips that I'm not happy with.
Are solid color chips with inlays possible? They're a lot less than inlaid spotted chips.

minimum would be ~500 chips for 5 denoms, that's not really a fortune in chips, if it is then you probably don't need $100 & $500 denoms in your cash set so there's some savings right off the bat.
The two molds you chose would not be good candidates for labels. Either get them with inlays or blank and hotstamp them.
And if you sign up to be a paid supporter of Chiptalk, you'll get 10% off your ASM order!

I've already decided that the labeling route is not for me.
My homegame is weird. I run an EXTREMELY deep $0.25/$0.50 game. I am a permanent host/dealer who runs the game for tips, so I have no interest in the game's action. The $500 chip will not see play until my game evolves, but I want a barrel of $100s to ensure that my bank does not deplete. I've had $2000 games on several occasions.
I'm waiting until I have enough money to make this happen. I think it'll work wonders for my game.

I was in your shoes a month ago. I took the dive into full ASM inlays with spots. good choice.
just make the move like a band-aid - riiiiighhhht off! not like your shelling out 20K for these. It shouldnt ruin you financially, just have a cut back on a few things here and there and if you love your home game enough its an easy choice.
nice simple design by the way. GL
