how to get custom chips steps A-Z?

Hey, so Im interested in getting in the next few months some custom labelled (laminated maybe) chips.

what are the steps?

1. find the right blank inlaid chip?
2. find the right chip and mill it out to accommodate label?
3. design artwork and casino/cardroom name?
4. send printwork (jpg) into print place like PGI by means of email ?
5. get prints back and stick them on?

missing anything?
if that is correct I would believe finding the perfect chip would seem the toughest part of it all?

I am still a rookie chip set collector so excuse me if I re-did a previous A-Z type thread but I couldnt find one in search feature.

thanks

Depends on what you're trying to do, really. I suppose this is a spinoff of your other thread. It sounds like you're on the right track, but if you just want chips with your own label, you could order custom ASMs, or china clays from PGI already labeled. The 8V's are REALLY nice.

I have some A Molds (for sale) that are milled out. I can send you a few if you'd like. I also have LOTS of other samples that might help you make a decision. Shoot me a PM.

ya it is a spinoff of the other thread but this one I mostly want the steps on how to go about it, the other thread is more about the different chips to choose from.

Re: how to get custom chips steps A-Z?

Well.. it depends on the routes you wanna go. If you go with PGI, you..

Create Artwork... by yourself or with a Artist (i use Johnny5)
Submit artwork to PGI thru email
Send release thru snail mail if you dont use an artist
Order chips in colors of whats available.
Wait a bit for them to show up at your door (about 2 weeks)

If you want full customs, you gotta figure out the artwork and edgespots, figure out costs and breakdown that will work. Submit everything into ASM, pay, and wait a few months to cue up and get it done.

ASM's take months, but your getting a fully custom chip. Its a different, more expensive venture. But the General process is the same. Give artwork, Tell what kinda chip you want, wait wait wait...

You keep going back to wanting to Mill out chips for labels. I would urge you to quit attemping to alter a chip and either to with the V8's... where your cost is SUBSTANTIONALLY lower with the exact custom effect... with lower chance of error. Or save up and go get ASM's where you have a fully custom chip, with custom INLAYS instead of stickers, and less chance of error...

I started with Ceramics, waited 3 years before i bought the V8's, and waited 6 months before i bought my ASM's... Just to make sure the sets i make are perfect. Nothing would be worse then paying 800 bucks for a set, and then having a minor issue like color or not liking how a sticker sits instead of an inlay turn you off on the set. It happens more often then you would think. God knows i wish i knew what i know now when i made my ceramics, but they didnt cost anything near what Paulsons Milled or ASM's do, so its not any huge loss.

heck, Take Brains613 up on his offer and check on those Amolds. at .40 cents each, you could sticker them and have a pretty much custom set for cheap without big money.

Re: how to get custom chips steps A-Z?

Thanks, a lot of info to chew on!

I think i'm leaning towards either full asm inlay or the custom paulson chips mold ones....

I have to receive those samples and see how they look because they say they put their own label and lamination over the existing inlay. Looks like they use the pharaoh chip! ?

Your right, I don't mind doing the mill work on the Avalon or pcr but the chance of error is there.

When I do receive the sample custom paulson chips, how can I test the quality of their 'inlay'overt the real inlay? Make sure it doesn't go above the chip? Can't peel off easily? Put water on it? Etc

Thanks again

Honestly, i dont have a clue how you would test it out. I would take a normal casino chip with a inlay and the stickered chip and feel them out. You gotta shuffle a few and sit and honestly work them over for a few weeks. Because once you get them, you gotta think your going to be working them over for a few years. They gotta meet your standards and feelings. I would assume you would not want the label to be too far over the edge, which would make them stack all funky... and that the label was not visible thru the new one.

Personally, if i want a paulson, i want a casino paulson or a hotstamped paulson, and i want it the way it was meant to be. If i want a custom chip, ill go buy a custom chip thru PGI or ASM. I would be too paranoid that if i milled some perfectly good Paulsons that a few milimeters could make them look weird, or screwed up. Little errors would stand out to me like a sore thumb. That is just money and chips down the tube. (again, just my opinion... some members have turned this into an artform..)

I would feel sinful milling some PCR's too, they are just too beautiful. I was never a fan of a hot stamp until i got the set... now i think i like hot stamps MORE then inlays.

Just keep getting samples and shuffle them for a few weeks. As you shuffle and play with them, note which ones you dont honestly care for, or feel cheap, and notice the ones you keep slipping to the top and enjoying. Get them greased up with your hands and see the differences.

You will figure it all out, we cant answer these questions, only you can.
