Faux Clay 1" label too big - where can I get 7/8?

I am working on making my own labels for my new FC chips and I see that the 1" Vinyls I've purchased are slightly too big. My guess is that 7/8 would be a tad too small and 15/16 would be just about right. I'll take either!

Does anybody know where I can purchase 7/8 or 15/16 vinyl inkjet or laser labels? The place I purchased from only sells 3/4 or 1". I am looking to label 1100 chips so I would need 2200 labels, so I would probably purchase 50-100 sheets.

Thanks!
GoldHawk

Re: Faux Clay 1" label too big - where can I get 7/8?

somewhat of a coincidence, I was going to post a similar message today.

I am about to buy 100 sheets of 1" vinyl labels because I cant find 7/8. I know the label will have to be pushed into the small crack. I have two hundered faux clay chips with paper labels where I have done this to experiment. The paper labels are comming up slightly in the crack, but I was wondering if the vinyl labels, being thinner and maybe more permanent adhesive (?) would work better. I have searched posts for faux clays with 1" vinyl labels and haven't found anything, all the 1" labels seem to be the paper ones.

Anyone have any experience with pushing the vinyl labels into the crevice?

If you are crazy, you could just stick the 1" label on and then trim it with a knife around that channel.

I know you are just asking where to buy the 7/8 labels, but what is the actual size of the faux clay labels? I should find this out, as I will be labeling mine soon.

dhineline -

From my very limited experience (1 chip!) it doesn't look professional. I think the label will stay down, but it ruins the appearance.

That wouldn't be crazy, that would be INSANE! lol

I think it is 7/8. Maybe somebody else with more experience can chime in.

And... Yes - I visited the sites people have listed that will print the labels for you, but I'm trying to do this cheaper. Thanks for the link.

Also, I found that I can buy 3/4 inch vinyl labels, but those would be too small IMO.

Does anyone have a contact to purchase 7/8 in vinyl labels? Thanks.

Re: Faux Clay 1" label too big - where can I get 7/8?

I think a lot of people have run into this problem...the label makers just don't make the odd sizes poker chips require. It's not just the faux clays, the home Paulsons require 7/8 labels to cover the inlay too. And if you want to label the BCC chips, for example, I think they have a 1 1/8 center.

The guys who print them can cut them to any size. There was one place that I read about where they would custom cut labels, but as I recall, it was going to cost nearly as much for the blanks as what Jason (PPC) could print them for. (Also consider the cost of the printer ink you're using. A bunch of label sheets could use an entire cartridge.)

You could make a template out of plastic that would be the size you need, and after you print the 1" labels, you could use an exacto knife to trim the labels around your template, before you peel and stick them on. If you're doing like 1000 FC, though, I would think about the time and work required, and then just order some printed labels.

Stuffing labels in the cracks won't work, they won't stay down after awhile. I have some of the 1" vinyl labels that I used on some dice chips years ago...if I put one on one side of a FC, there is minor rubbing with the next chip in the stack...if I put one on each side, I get spinners. Our vendors have some super-thin vinyl that supposedly works better than the blank labels you can buy, according to some posters here. I just bought 1000 FC, looks like I'm probably going to cold stamp them with Staz-on ink after dying them.

Re: Faux Clay 1" label too big - where can I get 7/8?

This thread is making me so sad, although I am glad I am finding out this stuff before I ordered my 2500 faux clays that would need 5000 labels.

Godhawk-
you say it does not look professional/ruins the appearance. One thing I did on my experimental paper labels (100 green 100 black) was to print a small circle the color of the chip on the outside edges. Since printing them myself is not as accurate as the professional guys this would let me somewhat hide the fact that some might be off-center. This was true even for my Nexgens (which is what I am trying to replace). In effect though, it allowed the part that is pushed down in the circle to be relatively un-noticeable. Except for the fact that my edges are coming up a little.

I also thought the thinner vinyl labels would even make this less noticeable. But byline9's post concerns me that the thinner vinyl labels are from the professionals and that the vinyl labels I was going to buy (from onlinelabels.com) may not be that thin.

I will say that even with my paper labels that the labels rubbing does not seem to be a problem and stacking to any reasonable height is not a problem and I have no spinners.

Where did you get your vinyl 1" labels and do they seem pretty thin?

(I may post a pic of my chips tonight so you can see the colored circle. They're a still a little more noticeable than they could be because the label colors match my nexgen chips exactly and not the faux clays)

I bought a few pages from labelsbythesheet.com to do my testing. They are inkjet 1" vinyl labels and are thinner than a paper label, but I don't know the ml thickness (not on site nor invoice). They have a nice feel to them.

Thanks for your suggestion about outer color... I may try that. I will print a few tonight and post some photos after I create a few. I have to say the design I like best right now is where there is a full bleed and no circular text (that makes mis-printing/mis-alignment more evident.)

One thing I noticed was that while printing I should NOT use high resolution mode as it puts way too much ink on the page. I think I will try it in standard or draft mode to try and cut down how much ink is deposited on the page.

And I just rinsed one of them under running water for 30 seconds and indeed, these are waterproof. Absolutely no color bleeding.

I asked for a price from rippedsheets and it is way over my budget.

More soon.

Re: Faux Clay 1" label too big - where can I get 7/8?

Here are some pics of my experimental chips. 100 black and 100 green. 1" paper labels printed on inkjet and sprayed with Krylon acrylic. As you mentioned, having a circular design makes any mistakes much more obvious. I am going to change it slightly but still mostly circular.

As you can see the, edge of the labels, especially on the green chips, is coming up very slightly. (actually staying down better on the black, but I have no idea why). It is somewhat deceiving, because it is still very difficult to get the label off, even though it looks like it could easily be lifted off. But it still bugs me too much.

I would love to see one of the 1" vinyl labels applied when your done experimenting with the printer. If I am convinced they would lay nice and flat and stay adhered I probably will go with it.
