The Official Faux Clay Nation Labelling Thread

This thread is a reference for members wanting information about labeling Faux Clay chips. The initial posts contain links to pre-existing information on ChipTalk.net.

Topics for this thread include:
  • Links to pictures of labeled FCs
  • Details on label design issues (size, colors that match FCs, thickness, label material)
  • Contact details for vendors offering labels.
  • Discussion on pros and cons (sticking, stacking, wear, color bleed, edges lifting, adhesion, etc).
To avoid this thread becoming too large and making it difficult to search, please follow these guidelines:

Try and keep the discussion to the topic – namely FAUX CLAY LABELS (use the main FCN thread for non-labeling posts and for giving feedback to members on how great their chips look).

Post Pr0n in the gallery forum (by all means, post links to pics of labeled Faux’s here, however, please try and keep the thumbs and/or source pics in other threads).

If you have labeled FCs, please contribute a post with:
  • Links to pics of your chips,
  • Where you got the labels done (art and production),
  • Number of labels you got,
  • How long you've had them in play and regularity of use,
  • Number of labels that you've replaced and reasons why,
  • Pros and cons,
  • Any tips for others.

Problems with black backgrounds bleeding from Jason (Hogwild) have been solved.

Palm Imports labels may be too thick for Faux's...

I see that, like me you are considering labeling your FCs. However, I also see (from another thread) that you're checking out a way to deepen the recess. I presume via mechanical removal (machining) of some type.

Please post details of your plans and keep us all posted on progress.

So far I have been trying to find a way to use a dremmel, however the pesky little screw in the middle presents a problem. I was considering just filling in the small indentation with some kind of filler afterwards and then adding the label. The only other problem I have is being steady enough to do this to say 500 chips and uniforminty. I hate to do this and have them be different depths. On the plus side, vinyl labels are awefully thin, so really my goal might be just to sand it enough so that it is smooth. I'll keep you posted. I haven't really got started and only sanded one chip thus far and that was months ago. I'll get to it after I finish labeling my other chips for the league I am in.

IMO any sort of removal by hand (e.g. Dremmel) will be fraught with variablity and difficulty. It may be better to use a facing bit (flat bottom rasp) in a drill press. A jig to hold the chip (recess in a block of wood or plastic clamped to the bed) and you can set the depth to just skim the surface lightly. Faster and more accurate.

Forgive me if this post does not pertain to the labeling of faux clays, but, the bleeding problem has apparently not been resolved. My label order for my asm's was just scratched/refunded due to the bleeding of dark colors. Jason attempted to print more than once with no success. We will be having to make alterations in my design. i.e. less dark colors.

Thanks for the update. Good info and on topic for Faux labeling 'cause Hogwild's thinner labels are possibly the label of choice for FCs.
