My Faux Tourney and Cash Set Progression

I wanted this to be my first new thread. I am putting together a cash and tourney set from Faux Clays and wanted to share my experience.

This is what I had in mind:

Tourney Cash Totals
______________________________
Blue 200 100 300
Black 100 55 155
Green 250 50 300
Pink 0 100 100
Red 200 0 200
White 50 25 75
==============================
Totals 800 330 1130

I originally bought 800 Faux Clays from DCG. This first purchase had a breakdown of:

300 Green (Cause they were going out of stock)
300 White
200 Red
1 1000 Count birdcage
10 Chip Trays & Covers

I then used Links_Slayer's directions here at CT for dyeing these:
http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/poker-...tml#post616184

I dyed:
110 Black
160 Royal Blue
30 Fuschia

Waiting on my second order to finish dyeing the rest.

Here is my second purchase of 400 more white bringing the total set up to 1200:

Here is the second dyed batch:

and the total 1200 chip set:

I have also created custom tourney and cash game labels:

Cash Set:

Tourney Set:

And my NCV and Bounty chips:

Or an alternative style for these special chips (I can't decide):

I am still working on this set....so advice and criticism wanted.

I just ordered the rest of my set:
400 White (300 to be dyed)

I will update this post when I get the new ones in and dye them.

Thank you. I used your directions for the most part except:

I mixed 3.5 cups in a gatorade liter jug along with 1 tsp or 1 shot glass of dye first
rinsed it out with another 3.5 cups of hot water
added the 1 cup vinegar then almost brought mixture to a boil
turned to 6 (mid-heat) and simmered while I dyed them
I never stopped stirring and 2 - 4 times a batch took them out and unstuck any that were stuck together

One piece of advice I have is that if you use a metal strainer you might not want to flip the chips up and down in the strainer while rinsing them off. I did this with the first few batches and had to re-dye them due to all these little chip/flakes on the edges apparently from the metal strainer cutting them. What made this bad was that it seemed to sometimes flake far enough that you could see lighter shades of color and sometimes white underneath.

Thanks again for your thorough instructions....that is what got me by.

Re: My Faux Tourney and Cash Set Progression

I got every color but the chocolate/dark brown died. I think they all turned out ok. The only thing I wished I would have done better was realize that I was flaking the chips while I was rinsing them off and flipping them in the METAL strainer. The blues looked better at first before their second and darker dyeing that covered the flakes. Oh well, you live and learn.

Now, on to RBY mixing for quarter and half pies. I think I am going to try some different things like dyeing thirds with red, blue, and yellow which will make the joining areas purple, green, and orange......don't know how this will work though. Anyone else ever try this type of thing?

Re: My Faux Tourney and Cash Set Progression

lnaves looks great!! Your the person I have to thank for mine turning out the way they did. I think next time I do it though I am going to do what texas kiwi (i think) did and that is do one big batch at a time. It has got to give you more consistency with the colors. Have you thought about doing this? What are your thoughts on it?? Thanks.
JEFF

Re: My Faux Tourney and Cash Set Progression

Personally, I wouldn't use the same colors for both cash and tourney. Chips could easily be slipped into the middle of a stack, and you wouldn't notice until too late.

Just my opinion.

Re: My Faux Tourney and Cash Set Progression

Did you use tangerine Rit for those orange dyed fauxs?

and what size is that label I see on your blue chip in the birdcage picture? 7/8"? 3/4"? If it's 3/4" do you think a bigger label works better?

thx!
