Vinyl 1" Label v.s Paper 1" Label - Size Difference?

Am I the only one who thinks there's a slight difference in actual size between the 1" vinyl and paper labels? I've seen several pictures (Qube, PaulB0t-Treps Labels) where the 1" paper labels takes up pretty much about 95-98% of the recessed center on the NexGen Chips.

However, I received a sample vinyl 1" label where there seems to be a lot more space between the edge of the label and the end of the recessed part of the chip....

Anyone else experience this? I'm going solely based on the pictures I've seen here of the TREPS and QUBE inlays.... so not sure if perhaps the pictures aren't close enough but from what I can tell, they are very close to filling the entire center of the chip.

i'm fairly certain that an inch is an inch, no matter what sort of material we're measuring.

did you ask hogwild this question?

Re: Vinyl 1" Label v.s Paper 1" Label - Size Difference?

Yeah I did... but he confirmed it was 1" vinyl label that I received... However, when I put it on one of my chips and see the gap between the label and the edge of the recessed center of the chip, it just seems the gap is much larger than what I see in these pictures being posted here.

I dunno... maybe I'm just going blind or something lol

Reminds me what weighs more a pound of feathers or a pound of bricks?

Erm... a ruler/yardstick/tape measure would answer a lot of the questions on your end. These items are pretty readily available in most households.

Maybe you could talk someone with paper labels into performing the same experiment.

Re: Vinyl 1" Label v.s Paper 1" Label - Size Difference?

If the chip label is made on a large format vinyl printer, a lot of them pre-heat the material as it goes through and as it cools it shrinks a little bit. That may be why your noticing the vinyl as being a little smaller. This is only assuming it's being done on a vinyl printer like a mimaki or something.

If you want the vinyl labels, maybe ask them to increase the size of the template of your chip by a tenth of an inch and see if that will bring it closer to an inch when it's done with the print.

I don't have any 1" vinyl labels but I would like the little space in the recessed area for that concentric circle look.

Re: Vinyl 1" Label v.s Paper 1" Label - Size Difference?

PJ,

I bought 1" paper labels and then turned around and bought 1" vinyl labels both from Hogwild. I thought for sure I'd received 7/8" labels for the vinyl's because they were slightly smaller than the others. But after putting a few on my NEXGEN's to see how they looked, I didn't even bother trying to figure out if I'd received the wrong ones because I was so pleased with them, and wouldn't change a thing. All this to say that I did notice a slight difference, but it doesn't take away from the appearance of the labeled chip.

We print alot of nexgens-- theyre not 1 inch centers-- the exact dimensions vary from chip to chip ( ea is SLIGHTLY different) but the nexgen series II uses a 1.008 - 1.010 inch diameter-- The Bees are 1.006 in. Pro Clay Casinos are 1.160 IF you want to cover the reveal- that dashed line around the center.
We use cast vinyl ( less shrinkage) and then a floor lamination and then cut the image to the above sizes.
