pankwindu family chip label feedback?

Just thought I'd see what anyone thinks of these for a personal family label design. They will be 7/8" rippedsheets labels on faux clays.

Here are the initial mockups. Jason E (Cin0s3) will be doing the final version (my sister-in-law did these), but I would welcome anybody else's input as well if you don't mind us "borrowing" the ideas.

The images are the mascots of various high schools and colleges attended by different family members. We are giving sets of these to family members as Christmas gifts. (We're actually rounding up better versions of the cardinal and lion, so they'll probably end up looking a bit different than above.)

Chip colors will be:
25 - Cardinal - black chip
100 - Lion - purple chip
500 - Beaver - green chip
1000 - Wolf - red chip
5000 - Knight - orange chip

Before anyone complains about the non-traditional colors ... the order the mascots are in is meaningful, thus the matching school colors have to come along for the ride.

Thoughts? Ideas?

P.S. Bonus points to any upper-Midwesterners who can match the mascots to the towns/schools.

Re: pankwindu family chip label feedback?

Cool idea! Labels look good, but the towns surrounding the label may be too small to show up.

I could read them though. I've traveled from Mississippi to Aberdeen and Minot just to play golf! 14 hrs. straight from Tupelo to Aberdeen.

I hope you get 'em before Christmas!

Re: pankwindu family chip label feedback?

I think the orange chip is gonna be hot.
Also red and green.
I worry that the purple and especially the black will be too dark.
Maybe some more light color in the label somehow.
2c, for what it's worth.

Re: pankwindu family chip label feedback?

That's a nice theme, and I'm sure your family will appreciate it.
As for the labels,
It would be nice to see mockups that included the chips.
The cardinal doesn't show up very well -- maybe more of a solid/filled-in cardinal would be better.
I don't think you'll be able to read that text around the perimeter. Plus, it will be a problem if the label alignment drifts very much.

How many chips do you plan to make? Sounds like you're going to be spending a few days applying labels!

Rounded up a photo of an old lettermen's jacket for the cardinal - whadda ya think?

Or do you think black label on black chip is too much? I think we're ok with that part of it - I don't mind the look of that style here: http://chiptalk.net/forum/showpost.p...postcount=1264

The school colors for the lion are purple and gold, so I think we'll be getting some gold in there. My sis-in-law is going to try to contact someone at the school who works with their artwork on Monday, so hopefully we'll get something with more detail as well.

Ha! Never really paid attention before, but yep, it's the same lion!

A purple and gold version of that would look very nice, if we aren't able to get anything different from the school....

Re: pankwindu family chip label feedback?

I like the cardinal on the jacket much better. It's got a little more color, and will be striking in the middle of the black chip.

And I think a little gold on the purple chip will make a big difference, too.

Are you gonna have a label-sticking party? or do them all yourself?

Well, 2400, but only 1000 need to be done early, the rest are for people in on the project so the surprise element is not necessary. We've got my brother, his wife, and I ready to crank out chips, but it's gonna be close considering we probably won't get the labels until the last few days before Christmas. Worst case scenario if we don't make it, we just put the whole family to work labeling their own chips over the holiday!

Re: pankwindu family chip label feedback?

Ok, made a few changes to the cardinal, lion, and wolf, and combined labels with chips.
