Nexgen Lucky Bee Concerns

Hey guys and (gals),

I just recieved my new 500 Nexgen Lucky Bee set from Palm Imports that replaces my old ABS composite poker chip set. I'm not a poker pro but after reading many reviews from many web sites, I figured that the Nexgen 8002 was the best for the money.

The first things that I noticed was that the weight and feel of the chips are great BUT I also noticed right away that the chips are easily scratch or marked even with a finger nail. I fear that if one chip hits the floor that it will dent the edges, etc..... especially when the game involves men, money and alcohol

Is this normal for Nexgen of any series to have this problem ??? I'm also thinking of getting labels for them from PersonalChipSet.com. I thought I would post this thead to ease my concerns.

Thanks in advanced for any replys.

Re: Nexgen Lucky Bee Concerns

With enough abuse, any chip can be damaged, including casino grade chips. If your guests are particularly violent and abusive, and prone to actions that present extraordinary exposure to the damage of your chips, you're probably better off with the ABS chips, they're a bit sturdier when being bounced regularly off of concrete, though they're not a big favorite amongst chip fans. They can also be easily replaced at a relatively low cost when they are damaged or lost, and they're readily available from a number of sources.

Given the propensity for ill-mannered behavior that you relate, you would probably not be well-served using any of the casino grade chips as they can be damaged with that kind of handling, and may encounter the same kinds of damage (either scratching or composite material separating from the chip itself from impact, or through willful abuse.) Additionally, replacements in small quantities could be difficult should damage or lost occur, though that shouldn't be a problem in the short term with the Nexgens.

Insofar as being able to damage Nexgens (and other chips) with fingernails, than can indeed occur, however with normal personal hygiene, like trimming the finger nails, that should not be a problem in normal usage.

Re: Nexgen Lucky Bee Concerns

I have a set of the NexGen 8000's with custom labels. I use them for home games where most of the people don't pay much attention to their chips, so no one is carefull with them. So far , maybe 3 months, and there is no damage to them. No scratches or such. The labels came from Jason (CinO3s) and there havn't been any problems with them.

Re: Nexgen Lucky Bee Concerns

That's the main reason I didn't go the nexgen route when I bought my chips for labels. I really didn't like how the softer material is so easily damaged. Of course, it really takes someone to be sitting there picking at a chip with their nail or whatever, which is probably unlikely, but it still bothered me enough to avoid them. All chips are prone to damage, but the Nexgens seem to me more likely to be scuffed or chipped during standard play.
