Chips: 52 | | | Is it necessary to spray your labels? Hello,
I was just wondering if my labels would be okay on my nexgen chips without any protecting spray? Are the labels going to wear quickly? Has anyone done this? Thanks. |

That having been said though, you'll still run the risk of faster wear, and the labels will be more vulnerable to stains from handling (like from greasy fingers). If they're paper labels, they're going to be vunerable to liquids either way, but without a coating on them, the paper will absorb liquid from even casual contact, like a wet finger.
And of course, if someone starts scratching at the label with a fingernail, they'll be able to damage the label that much easier. Quote: |

If you're not well-versed in spraying with a spray can, you might want to practice on something else first just to get the hang of it; (especially if the labels were printed by someone else). It will ease your concerns when you go to spray your labels. Quote: |

Start spraying before the page, spray across and past the edge, then let go of the nozzle. Then repeat. That way, you won't get blotches or runs, and you'll get a nice even coat. Waving the can can lead to uneven coverage, which leads to attempts at correction resulting in oversaturation. Do a couple of light coats.

You may also notice some cheeky gadgety looking spray handles in the paint department of your hardware store, Wal*Mart, or wherever you're getting the spray. If you do, get one, they're worth their weight in gold and makes for much easier spraying. If you spray outdoors, like I do, you may need to get in a little closer than 10", depending upon the conditions, as even the slightest breeze could have an impact on your results. (and even outdoors, the smell is pretty bad) Quote: |

One stack of 12 i have at work has been suffled every day of the week for hours on end for about 2 months and the labels look the same as the day i put them on. Quite impressive really....

As you probably already know, the toner from a laser can transfer to other surfaces that it comes in contact with (like when a laser printed sheet is placed is a sheet protector). I figure spraying the labels is just plain cheap insurance to minimize that potential. Additionally, if you have a guest that starts scratching at the label, the acrylic seems to give it some additional resistance to damage. Quote: |
