Chip label design advice please

I am probably going to get some nexgens - not too sure which - either the 8002 or the bees - with the intention of getting some custom labels printed up. Not going to do the printing myself - but have fairly clear ideas on the design.

The designs below are my own and are deliberately very simple. I wanted a plain 'old fashioned' style label rather than anything glossy. However I wondering if it is too plain. Perhaps I should add more variation for each denom other than just the number.

I am going to put together a set for large tourneys - 4/5 tables which should only need about 1200 or so. I also want a similar but slightly differnt cash set. Perhaps only 300 chips to cover a couple of small side games. I reckon that I can use the tourney 25s as the 25p (25c) chip and only need seperate chips for £1, £5 and £20.

Let me know your thoughts. If you really think they suck then so be it - but try to be a little constructive

Re: Chip label design advice please

There's nothing wrong with straight forward classical designs. Earlier technology necessitated that the artwork be simpler in days past, you can do pretty much what you want now with color laser printers. The important part is that the design appeals to you rather than the approval of others. As a guideline or a starting point, the chips and inlays from domestic casinos may serve as a good starting point, and of course since we tend to have quite a few more on this side of the pond, you might also want to look at the chip designs of some of the older Nevada casinos for a simpler design. One thing to take into account is that you will be using a 1" label, so full face graphic designs that you see on the ceramic type chips (like the Chipcos that are also quite popular in Europe), will not work well as a reduction to a label. And bear in mind that your text is likely to be only 6-8 pts in height and you'll want to make sure that it is legible when it is printed in actual size (using a Sans Serif font in upper case only often helps achieve this.)

Re: Chip label design advice please

I really like your design. Most chips are waaay to complicated for my taste.

Only a couple suggestions / tweaks:

Have the castle redrawn so the lines of the towers are smooth, not stepped. I'm not a graphic person, but I'm sure someone else here could help you with that.

Just for kicks, try widening the towers just slightly and inserting the "E" and the "P" inside the lines, rather than on the outside. Don't know if I'm explaining this right, but I think it might make the "Semper Fidelis" really pop.

If you did the above, and then thinned the lines of the castle (refined them) your denomination and "Semper Fidelis" would look more balanced.

But I don't know anything and if you showed up with these chips right now I'd say "Ooooo, me likey!"

Good Luck!

Re: Chip label design advice please

Thanks for the suggestions fellas. Having the E P on the towers might be a good one.

My poker club/school/collective is called Exeter Poker and is based in Exeter in the UK. The castle is the Old Rougemont Castle built by the Normans which is now defunct but is still on the city's coat of arms. 'Semper Fidelis' is the city motto given by Queen Elizabeth I after the city donated a couple of warships to fight the Armada. I think 'always faithful' has a certain resonance for card players - always faithful the cards will even out one day
