Chips: 26 | | | nexgen, chip label trouble... Bought some nexgens, designed labels, ordered from Lybark, and everything was great. But I discovered a problem that you could avoid. Because I planned it all ahead of time, I got the chips and labels in the mail the same day. I put the labels on the chips right out of the plastic wrapping. Many of them (I mean a lot) started to peel off the chips. I think I should have wiped the chips down or at least handled them a little before applying the labels. So don't put the labels right on new nexgens out of the packaging. I ordered some replacement labels and everything seems fine now.

If those labels are the paper labels from Consolidated, you'd have a hard time getting them off without tearing the label. I've pretty much also just put labels on Nexgens right out of the shrinkwrap. The only time I clean them off is if I remove a label and replace it with another one (though I use vinyl/poly labels and they do come off in one piece.) |

Seems very strange. I have old hold'em chips (nearly 2 years old) and 2 nexgen series sets. The nexgens were opened and labelled immediately.
Can you take a pic of how they are peeling?
Did you apply any spray on the labels before applying?
Do you live or store the chips in a HUMID place?
Did the chips feel dusty prior to application? |

Chips: 26 | | | Re: nexgen, chip label trouble... I'll have to see if I can borrow a friend's digital camera to take a picture. I've almost replaced all of the peelers. Basically, one edge of the label begins to lift. I could press it back down and it would stay for about 5 minutes, before it would lift again. When I replace the peeling labels, I have used an old plastic playing card and slid it under the lifting label. I pull it back and peel it off all the way.
I did spray them with 2 thin coats of Preserve It (matte finish). Would this have an affect? They are stored in my case, in my house so they are not under any kind of extreme conditions. It's really bad though, at least half if not more than half of the labels...

Chips: 1,580 | | | Re: nexgen, chip label trouble... I've used 2-4 coats of labels on mine and about 10 other sets with absolutely no effect on the "stickiness". I'm assuming you didn't spray the chips after labels were applied? |

Chips: 26 | | | Re: nexgen, chip label trouble... I sprayed the labels before removing them from the sheets, of course. I did peel off the excess label material that surrounds the labels before I sprayed them, so they'd be easier to get off the sheets . Maybe some of the "Preserve It" got onto the edges of the labels and messed with their stickyness.
That's gotta be it, unless someone has done it that way with no problems.
Either way, if they're not perfect, Lynbark will be getting more of my business as I continue to fix my problem...
