Do you know anyone who could whip out caricatures (sp?) of each of your kids and/or wife for the chps. That might be the artsy way you could do it.
You can also have Photoshop do an etching, or a charcoal drawing type rendering of the photo. Crop out the junk you don't want from the photo first, then to the filter. Or better yet, take their pictures in front of a solid color background (wall, or sheet, or something like that) that you can recolor based on which chip they are on.
Sounds like a great gift. Wish my wife and two kids liked me to play poker as much as yours do. Mine are still so young that they just know i'm gone and it makes it that much harder on my wife getting them fed and in bed by herself. (4yr old and 8 mo. old)

There's probably a computer program available somewhere that would do this. I remember about 10 years ago seeing a Japanese robot that painted caricatures. The algorithm is pretty straight-forward: You compare a face to the "average" face. Then simply exaggerate the differences.
