I will be participating in the American Beauty group buy and have been thinking about buying extras to pack up and sell as sample packs (like a complete 8 pack at a time).
I hope to add a bit to the bankroll/help pay for my chips - not make a fortune or anything.
What is a typical markup for something like this. Lets say that I get the chips for the .50/ea price - so my "cost" is $4/set (not including the shipping cost). These can ship for like $3. So - $7 cost give or take. Would it be reasonable to think that these would sell for $13-$15 on ebay (including shipping)? I have looked at some of the existing listings and it looks like they do not go for much more than cost for some items. The Paulson samples that I see seem to be going for $1 a chip + shipping. For the work it will take in listing and shipping - I would like to at least double my cost ($14 a set) - but is this a reasonable expectation??????
Get off the dime and place your "Promise to Pay". There is no such thing as a perfect Christmas tree or a perfect chip. If you don't get in on the initial order you will be spending "a minimum $.75 for each chip due to licensing fees to the famous artist."
Or don't sign up, I will be selling sample sets on eBay.
While I realize that eBay is the great bazaar of free enterprise, chip talk is all about helping each other to get a better deal for yourself. In that vein, if you are not buying a playing set for yourself, but do want a small number of sample sets, check out the samples group buy I'm hosting http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1916. The only benefit to me for handling the sample sets is that I should be able to get my less than 1000 chip set at the 1000 chip price (and I keep the COA).
Later,
Bruce
PS Current commitments are at 50 five chip sets.
I have also signed up to purchase extra on and above the 500 set I plan on keeping. bhb is trying to make a group buy for chiptalk.net members. EBay will be market value. Set your price to high you won't move the sets too low you won't make a profit. Only you can decide how much your time and effort is worth.
Seems to me that you are talking about a lot of work for not much of a return. Take a look at the sample sets that other retailers put together. They are set up to handle shipping etc much better than I imagine you would be.
Apache has buy it now auctions for sample sets of Pharoah's 7 chips for $12.00. + $3 for shipping. Cost was about $6 for the chips and packaging and shipping for maybe $2. Apache will have a profit of $7 - ebay fees for each set they sell.
You will have to compete with these guys. It seems to me that there are easier ways of making $7
