Chips: 501 | | | Nexgen samples finally got here The first of many samples I have ordered, a sample set of each of the Nexgen sets arrived today.
As expected, I wasn't terribly impressed by the "Bee" set. Too much grey used in the edge spots, and it seemed a little smoother than the others.
For the RPTs, I don't know if it was just my samples or not, but some of the two-tone edge spots seem to be not quite "together", and some are kind of splitting apart. Smoothness also seemed to be in between that of the first two sets and the Bees. Lack of texturing along the edge, I guess.
For the first two sets, there doesn't seem to be much difference other than the extra edge spot colours, and the originals have those diamonds along the edge (which I'm not too fond of).
They do have a nice feel to them, and if I had to choose just from these, I'd likely go with the multi-colour Nexgens (with the extra orange colour!). But, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what the faux clay chips are like - which should hopefully get here this week.
Just for stacking, I only have 29 chips, but even that seems to be more stable than the junk dice chips that my friends all have. But nowhere near as good as clays/ceramics, I'm sure.
Right now, I'm just trying to decide which cheap set to go with, while putting aside money for a clay or ceramic set (which I'm also getting samples of for many different sets).
Nothing really new in this post, just wanted to share my opinion and general excitement of getting new chip samples

Chips: 501 | | What sorts of samples are on the way? I'm waiting on faux clays, diamonds (similar, I think), the Sopranos chips, and a sample set of Paulson ... the newer ones, I guess. Not the James Bond set. I forget what they were being called.
Next week I'm grabbing a whole bunch of other samples from HPC, the different clays/ceramics.
At this rate, I'll probably have a "set" of 500 or so samples

It's too bad, because they were are one of the "label" chips that I was thinking about using for a friend's set. Oh well. It makes my decision easier. |

I don't think it's a unique situation. I also noted that as I shuffled these chips more, the edges started getting raggedy. Little 'stringers' that kept the edges from being totally smooth in a stack. It annoyed me a bit, -ymmv. In my case I think that was the one 'eew factor' that would keep me from buying a set. Otherwise, I like them.
Another technical aspect of these chips is that they're larger (40mm) and thicker than some of the others around. This may not seem a big deal, until you start looking for racks and boxes that will house them. I would imagine they'd be a snug fit in some cases also...?
That said, they're still a great chip if you want your own labels, and looks-wise (to me) are miles ahead of dice chips. |

I'd probably be annoyed with it, too. It's too bad that the RPT chips seem to have problems with the edge spots coming apart, some of them (the black and purple, at least) look pretty nice otherwise. I could also see that being a problem for fitting in a rack/case. Probably the least of the problems with these, though. Quote: |

You can tell it's plastic, but not hard like dice chips. I definitely won't be making my decision until my faux clays arrive, but I'm fairly sure it'll be a choice between the Nexgens and faux clays. Undecided on labels for now, but I have a few ideas for them (one I've already posted about).

Chips: 377 | | | I also placed an order for samples from 5StarDeal, which by the way shipped today. I am getting 1 of each color of all Nexgen's(8000,8002,8200, RPT, and Bee), a few Super Diamonds, and 1 of each color of the faux clay. I wanted enough to feel and shuffle around to decide. I will post my findings after I get them in, sometime this week I hope. Totaled out to $16.90 with that damn $9.99 flat-rate shipping they switched to. |

I wanted to see how well they stack, and how they look with a bunch of the same colour in a stack.
And I just ordered a sample set of the Rounders movie replica chips... the madness doesn't end. Planning to get samples from HPC for The Egyptians, Mardi Gras Clay, Desert Sands, Grand Island, Classics, Casinos, and a set of Dal Negro cards (might as well get something I'm going to use with that order!) at the end of the month. Too bad the Pharaohs probably won't be available as samples. But if they are, they'll be ordered, too
