Why are the Vinyards sooooooo expensive?

The chips are cool, but is there some combination of design and rarity that drive the prices? Simple supply and demand?

The current prices are retarded. The only reason these chips are so popular is that they are one of the few sets that can be made into a playable set. As collector chips they are worthless.

Once the current fad wears off they will return to their value as collector chips. I can pretty much guarantee that chips from a no name casino in rural California that was only open for 9 months will not have two to three times the value of other obsolete chips from the famous Las Vegas strip.

I've warmed up to the "California" colors for denominations, but not to the point that I would actually pay for these chips. I like them more than I used to, though.
I think AcePokerChips erred in designing the Vineyard commemorative set in traditional colors.
California chips should be blue, yellow, red and white (1-5-25-100), with the occasional black $20 and green $2.
Somehow, the Vineyard chips embody the Cali color scheme and aesthetic.
Will I buy any Vineyards? Maybe a set of 1 each.
I may very well buy a set of Cali color custom chips in the future, though. And if I do, I'll try to get a 43mm $500, just to pay homage to the Vineyard.

New to the forum and wanted to say hey.... I actually picked up a Vineyard set earlier this year off of ebay for my home games and absolutely love them. Were they pricey, oh yeah! I had a pretty big win last year and spoiled myself. The guys that play really like the set, I picked up close to 1000 chips, including 100 $20 chips. I recently purchased 10 $10 commemorative chips, just to see what they were like. They were “OK” nothing like the real thing, the logos were a little off and you can really tell the diff in weight, not a maj diff, but enough to notice. You can see some of the chips in the pic below. I also have a shot of the table I built… If you live in the Nothern VA area (Leesburg) and ever in for a game, drop me a PM.

Edit my whole post, went to home poker tourney for the skinny, now I get it. those look like nice chips, I would like to get a set of the ceramics myself since I've already got a clay set. Very nice though and excellent work on the table, what's your address I'll send someone over to steal it for me

I'm pretty sure those pics are of the original Paulson versions. SO yeah they would be clay. There are both Chipco Ceramic commemerative and BlueChip clay commemerative vineyards out there. I'm pretty sure you can get the blue chip ones from Acepokerchips. You may even still be able to get $1's and $5's of the originals from them as well, but you'll have to up the wazzoo for them.

I agree that the prices are too high for these. They are great chips, but for that price I think I would want trad vegas colors. I just can't can't get used to the yellow $5's. But that's just me. I supppose if I lived in Cali, I'd feel differently.

They're so expensive because of a great marketing strategy on forums like this that includes many, many shills. The antique poker chip market is kinda like the sports card market... there's no objective way to decide how much they're worth, so the sellers can drive up the price through word of mouth.
