Chips: 219 | | | Advice? Hi All,
Dead money here...
I'm looking to purchase a chipset and I've decided to do it right the first time and buy quality right away instead of buying a cheap composite set for $100. (I'm currently playing with Ace/Jack composite chips - decent but plastic nonetheless)
I've got it narrowed down to Mardi Gras Clay (love the look) and Paulsons (probably Pharoahs from holdemchips). I haven't actually handled either chip (I do have samples on the way) but I was wondering if some people here could give me some input. I'm thinking that most people are of the opinion that Paulson chips are the nuts but I would still like to hear opinions. In particular I would like to know if it is indeed a real problem of Paulsons getting dirty and colors transferring between chips. If so, is it easy to clean off?
Many thanks! |

Chips: 18,502 | | | they do get dirty...but they do clean fairly easily too.
the reason they get dirty is the same reason you want them, IMO: they grip eachother well, so they have more gritty, porous surfaces, which allows them to absorb more grime.
you can check reviews of trademark paulsons and nevada jack clays here on the site. those to sets are the equivalent of the two you're looking at.
at the current price at holdempokerchips.com, you won't ever see those pharaoh's as cheap again. |

Chips: 1,828 | | | I say go with the Paulson Pharaohs.
If I did'nt already buy 550 of those Pharaohs plus my 500 Paulson JB's plus my 500 Paulson Paradise Casino's plus my 300 Vineyard ChipCo's, I would have definitely bought more.
Its hard to go wrong at $0.87/chip.
I have'nt had much problems with my JB's getting dirty. Maybe it's because I don't have the white ones and I asked my buddies to only shuffle the like colors for the first night of play.
I think a little dirt and grime give the chips a little character. Hey, how often do you go to a casino and get to play with clean, brand new chips? |

...buy the pharaoh's. w/out a doubt, you won't regret it.

Chips: 111 | | As a fellow Canadian and former Albertan, I'll post this link for the great deal on Pharos. At those prices, you can't beat it. http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2038 |

Chips: 303 | | | Duke- Both are good chips, and of high quality. They vary in sound, weight, and to a lesser extent- texture & 'feel'. The Paulson's have just a tad more 'grip'. This may be why they pick up color easier. But after some use (and optional clean and/or oil), they break-in, and it's far less noticeable.
You have samples on the way, and that is good. I think in the end you may find your choice boils down more to a matter of personal preference, rather than of technical differences. Enjoy!

Chips: 9,135 | | | Everybody is voting Paulson's and with good reason.
However, the Mardi Gras chips are avail now and are VERY nice.
I agree that they are my favorite blue chips ever. I have a sample set of both the denoms and non-denoms and every time I shuffle them, I am more impressed.
Check out the samples and then YOU decide.
You absolutely will not go wrong with either of these chips.

PS I have Paulson's on the way, but I also have three framed posters in my poker room that are from Jazz fest in New Orleans, and I keep thinking I need a set of the MG's too. |

Chips: 219 | | Thanks for all the input guys! I took the plunge and bought the Pharoahs! With the pre-sell price being available again I just couldn't pass up the opportunity (even though my samples haven't arrived yet!). I couldn't wait for the samples to arrive as it may have wound up being too late with only 20k chips left for pre-sell prices. After shipping and currency exchange it came to $592 CAD which is *only* $1.18 a chip. Now I only have to wait until early-mid august. *sigh* |

So make sure you have some cash lying around once they arrive to pay the UPS man. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
