On my way to Las Vegas!

Hello all, been lurking around here for a while and decided to register and post.

I'm off to LV for 5 days on Monday. My fiance and I are going to be one of the 100 couples married at the same time on Fremont Street for part of the Las Vegas 100th Centennial celebration. We won the trip (everything paid except food and gambling money) from the local FOX6 news station, airfare, Golden Nugget rooms, shows, parties, and the ceremony are all paid for.

Keep your eyes on the news next Thursday (9th) for this mass wedding, as we might pop into a TV camera. This event might get national coverage, we are so excited! FYI I'm an Irish looking white guy 6' tall with a shaved head, and she is a petite 5' tall fiery redhead with freckles. Who knows if we will get any camera time, but anything can happen!

Back to my post, I'm wondering if anyone here lives in LV and if they could recommend any good "walk in stores" for high quality chips and gaming supplies. Because I will be the groom, my bride has a bunch of other "pre-determined" woman things (hair, make-up, etc) that will take up some of her afternoons during the week, while all I need to to is shave before the ceremony and show up on time.

I contacted GPI via e-mail and the answer was, "Please feel free to stop by, we don't offer tours anymore but we do have a small showroom with some new and interesting products." Hmmm, has anyone made this visit here?

Can anyone here recommend a high-end walk-in store in the LV (taxi-able from Downtown) area that would be worth the trip even if just to browse?

My goal (chip wise) most likely is to find a casino with killer looking $1 chips and buy about 300 of them to take/ship back for our home games, but if I can browse a store too, I think I would enjoy that.

Thanks for any advice!

OTB

Since you're staying downtown, you should definitely walk over to Gamblers General Store. That's only about 5 blocks or so from the Nugget. They don't have any really high-end chips, but they have a huge selection of gambling supplies.

Otherwise, the only other walkin place I know of in Vegas is Spinettis.

Gambler's General Store a MUST see

I'll second Capt's post. Gambler's General Store is what you are looking for to kill some time. I spent two hours just looking around the place the first time is was in Vegas. Well worth the walk or cab ride.

I've also bought several things from Spinetti's over the internet and from their small store (office?). If you decide to go there ask the cab to wait. It will only take 30 seconds to see the entire stock. They have everything on a shelving unit, 8 feet high and covering about 6 feet of wall space. They are an internet business and not designed for retail (although they do sell to the public). I wouldn't waste the cab fare to look at their merchandise, use a computer and the web.

Mike

PS. I am not affiliated with either of these businesses.

Congratulations on being selected to participate in the Once Upon 100 Weddings event and on your upcoming nuptials.

Not a good place to buy as their prices are kind of high, but Gamblers General Store is a great place to browse. Casinos are also a great place to browse if you want ideas to duplicate that 'casino experience'

Since you're already downtown, you might want to take a look at the Binion's chips. You shouldn't have to worry about too much of a crowd since most of the World Series of Poker events are being played at the Rio off the strip.

If you do head off to the Rio (great seafood buffet), you might want to check out the Poker Lifestyle Show at the Rio Pavillion. It's a consumer dog and pony display of products that's open to the public and being held in conjunction with the WSOP. Don't know if there is a charge for admission.

Welcome to this forum & congras on winning the prize. We'll look for you and your bride on TV.

When I was there couple of month ago, the manager at the Imperial Palace told me where to go to buy good chips and cards but the info went in one ear and out the other, so just ask the casino where to buy. Suggest pick a time when it is not busy to ask.

Like previously stated, Gamblers General Store doesn't have any high end chips, but it is still worth the walk over from the Nugget. They do however carry a thorough selection of original KEM cards for sale. As far as a nice chip to look for, I would highly suggest purchasing some of the new Wynn chips. I bought a rack opening day and they are amazing!

Ditto on GGS, though you may not want to buy your chips there.

If you haven't seen this yet, here's a thread with some good pics of LV casino chips for your browsing pleasure. http://chiptalk.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1405

On My Way to Las Vegas!

Congrats to you and your bride on your upcoming marriage in LV. I haven't read - or heard of this mass ceremony, but it sounds exciting! It will definitely be a "Fremont Experience"! Will be watching the news for a glimpse of you and the blushing bride.....
