I have run 10 people with this chipset:

120 $0.25
225 $1.00
55 $5

works fine for our .25/.50 NLHE games

225 100 50 25 although with a chipset of 400 I would suggest only using 3 denominations if you mostly have a 10 player tournament 250 200 50

What type of games: NLHE or cash games?

I assume you only have 10 people which is probably the max you can get with 400 chips. You really only need 3 colors; 4 colors might be overkill for such a small chip set.

For NLHE (T1000 w/ 3 colors)
150 x 5
180 x 25
70 x 100
Total=400

15 x 5 = 75 (150 chips total)
17 x 25 = 425 (170 chips total)
5 x 100 = 500 (50 chips total)

For cash games assume a $1/$2 (.50SB/ante) with 50 buyin
40 x .50
300 x 1
60 x 5
Total = 400 ($530)

4 x .50 = 2 (shouldn't need but a few for a SB or ante)
28 x 1 = 28
4 x 5 = 20

For cash games assume a $1/$2 ($1 SB/ante) with 60 buyin
350 x 1
50 x 5
Total = 400 ($600)

35 x 1 = 35
4 x 5 = 20

Hope this helps.

i think 200 150 50 is good. Or something like that. Maybe 200 120 80. Depending on what limits you play, at least 150 of the bid blind chip. I wish i had known more about breakdowns when i got my chips, and i actually regret my breakdown a lot for my 600 chips. It was 250 150 100 100. I wish it was something else like 300 200 100 or even 300 150 100 50.
