trking size and sound

does anyone know or have any ideas as to how the trking chips weigh the full 10g, while other home chips weigh closer to 9, being that the trking chips are thinner and smaller in diameter? seems odd to me. also, i assume that the trking chips have the heavier sound like real casino chips because of their weight, is that correct?

As far as size, my TR King's measure about 38.5mm vs. 39mm for Paulson's -- that's a difference of just under 2/100ths of an inch in diameter.

I think the thickness is the same. I only have a small stack of TRKs, but in a rack they seem to take up the same amount of space as Paulsons and other clays, as I recall. (I'm traveling without my TR Kings this week, so I can't take exact measurements. But I picked up some new BJs on Tuesday... am I a geek or what!)

That doesn't seem like enough to make a significant difference in weight. Using my rudimentary math skills to calculate the volume of a chip, this would be about 2.5% lighter, or about 9.75 grams instead of 10 grams for a theoretical Paulson.

I don't know how/why they weigh what they weigh, but they feel about the same to me. They sound a little different to me because of the "coating" on the TR Kings -- they seem to have a more shiny, almost varnished look/feel.

I picked up some samples of 4 different Golden Moon BJ chips -- [edit: took out links and put in picture directly]

They are identical to the Canterbury chips, with a different inlay and color scheme, of course -- the $5 chips at each place are an exact match. I brought some Canterburys along to compare...

These and all my other BJs are exactly 39mm each.

And I also picked up some Paulsons from Silver Star -- the Choctaw's sister casino across the road.

It's funny, they seem to be phasing out the $1 BJ chips at Golden Moon. The blackjack tables were mostly using $1 slot tokens, with only a few $1 BJs left. The dealer seemed almost happy to get rid of the BJs, but I didn't have a chance to talk to a pit boss about this.

Across at the Silver Star, the Poker Room used exclusively Paulsons. So there were racks and racks of $1 chips, most of them in good condition. I could have scored several hundred good white Paulsons if I wanted to...

Oops -- sorry about the thread-jacking....
