Unfortunately, once you pick them up they go down IMHO. They have a decent molded shape, but are definitely hard plastic. They don't "give" at all and won't Stick & stack very high. Down to a C- for feel.

As far as weight and sound, both those are OK to me, though the sound is a little metallic for my taste. B- for sound.

Overall, Nexgens with custom labels are an excellent mid-priced set that will add some class to your table. Overall B, for the price, if customized (otherwise get something else).

As far as true feel in a less expensive chip, the Archetypes/Kingpins have a surprisingly nice clay-like feel for the price. And the cheapest faux clay chips look very plain but feel great for peanuts.
Well said and very objective. I nominate tomb1 to do a Member Review of the Nexgen RPT's.
hey ten,
i wouldn't mind doing a review or 2 myself...i realize that i was a bit harsh in my post, but i just didn't have the time at the moment to also list what i did like about them. plus, i guess that it was a let down when i got the rpt's because there was just no way that they could ever live up to the hype that i've seen around the net... anyway, i'm in the process of building quite a massive sample selection, and i could be much more objective in an actual review than i was in my post...i guess i'll get the template for the reviews and submit a few rough drafts for you when i get a few extra minutes...

hunterking
Great! submit a short draft and we'll take it to the board.

I agree with a few of the others I like the nexgens with some nice custom designed labels. I think they are a great chip for the price especially if you are in need of alot of chips for a tourney.Another chip that is not bad at all are the Faux Clay chips nice chip for the price as well and can be customized to your liking if you indeed chose to do that...

Keeping in mind that the Nexgens are a great budget-conscious chip, they're really great. However, I've now been bitten by the clay/composite-bug and I really want to invest in an awesome set. That said, my regular group of ten are blown away by how nice my customized Nexgens look. They have added a level of class once missing at our table. If you don't have hundreds to spend, these are a great alternative.

For what its worth, here is my opinion about NexGens. I own a set of 650 NexGens that I purchased from 5stardeal about 3 months ago. Realize that prior to buying these I had been using a combination of Hoyle plastic chips and the cheap .08 cent diamond plastic chips....

I originally bought samples of lots of different kinds of chips before buying these. I did NOT go with the 11.5g metal insert chips due to the terrible metallic clinking sound they made. The NexGens were a bit heavier, yes, but they sounded a lot better than the 11.5g chips.

As for looks, they do look good and the color variety was also good in my opinion. I have the regular NexGens and not the RPT ones so this comparison may be slightly off topic.

I don't mind that the NexGens are a tad slippery - and after using them for about 3 months they are a bit less slippery. I can stack them just fine and don't really shuffle them (although I can do that fairly easily).

Recently I expanded my set with a couple more colors to better accomodate a tournament format. Mostly I use 4 colors in a cash game. I do plan on adding custom lables in the near future once I decide on a design - leaning toward a Colorado sports theme (I did mock-ups a couple of months ago but didn't follow up on it yet).

I collect clay casino chips also so I do know the difference between the NexGens and good quality casino chips. Ya, the NexGens are 12.5g and a bit on the heavy side, but I like the weight of them vs the old Hoyle plastics (anything beats those).

So would I recommend a set to my friends? Sure - any day. The looks are good enough and add "atmosphere" to my poker games. If you don't have a ton of cash to spend on chips - then NexGens are a good choice.

i voted several days ago and can't really remember what i answered anymore.

the thing is, these chips are awesome for what they are, which is a cheap chip with edgespots that feels better than dice, and are ready to be customized.

they aren't good at in when compared to nearly any chip that goes for 50c+/chip. but, we need to face the fact that labeled nexgens are awesome! and they're super-cheap, at $150ish for 500 (with labels). i paid nearly that much for my dice 18 months ago ops:.

the lebowski set i made for my brother rocks, and i love playing with them. that being said, i'd always use ceramic or clay instead, if we had those choices.
