Desert Sands - no contest in my opinion. I have never seen the sands in person but I have some ceramic chips samples so I figure that for the most part, if you see the graphics, then you hav a pretty good idea what the chip is like. The Neophyte are OK for for being a composite chip, but the finish on them is a little rough, IMO, particularly in the edge spot area. Maybe it's just the 4 samples that I got. I actually am having a hard time not buying a set of the Sands just because of the deal they have on them right now, not because I need any more chips. Just struggling with what I know the wife's reaction would be.
I'll probably get flamed on this but I actually think the Neophytes are a good cheap chip and far better than the average style plastic/clay-composite chips especially at .27 a chip for 1,000 chips with free shipping.
As for them versus the DS, go for the DS at $400 for 900 chips unless you have a severe distaste for ceramics. At the original price of $600 it be a tougher call IMHO. The extra $200 would pay for a fine, custom built poker table which will have much larger impact on your game than the difference between any 2 chip styles.
I know this is probably considered a blasphemous statement on this forum given some of Stephen at BPCs recent statements and such.
