Extra or spare chips....how many?
I have had a few clays shatter and chip, and even worse a few ceramics chip (which are a huge eyesore)......what is the wisdom of longtime chip enthusiasts here.....do you guys believe in keeping a few extra chips of each denom tucked away INCASE they need to be called into duty years down the road when your favorite chip that you are going to will to your son or duaghter is no longer made or available? How many chips EXTRA should you have 1%,5% perhaps a whopping 10%????

No questions about it. The more the better IMO.

Re: Extra or spare chips....how many?
Probably depends on your group....
If you play with a bunch of knuckle dragging troglodites, then get more. If they are respectful, you can get away with less.
I have fairly courteous players and haven't had a serious chip issue (just a couple very minor "flea bites" that you lose as soon as they get in a stack or pot. If this is the case, maybe a dozen tops per couple hundred.
Just one piece of experience and one custom set that has seen regular play for about 2 years.

Re: Extra or spare chips....how many?
I don't keep any spares.
My players know that their life is forfeit if they damage any of my chips, so... I trust them to handle the chips properly

Re: Extra or spare chips....how many?
My Chipco customs didn't come with extras the way that ASMs do so I had to consider this when ordering. I wound up getting 10% extra per denom for spares, sample sets, etc.

Re: Extra or spare chips....how many?
I have spares of every denomination of (almost) all of my sets. Usually about 10 of each, regardless of the size of the set. Sure, I might replace chips as they become damaged, but it's more in case some get lost - like fall down a heating vent or walk out the door in someone's pocket or something.
