Final word from GPI regarding lead?

I've done a bunch of CT searches on this topic but haven't come up with much...

Did GPI ever release any definitive information on the lead content of specific lines of its Paulson chips, colors, dates, etc.? I found their general release that discussed the chips in broad terms but haven't found anything more specific... either I'm missing it, it was never posted, or never released.

Calling their offices a million times got me exactly nowhere, and I've got a G worth of Pharaohs I'd love to pull out of solitary confinement...

Thanks in advance,
Soxfan

Re: Final word from GPI regarding lead?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the lead used for weighting poker chips coming from Paulson. Unless you decide to melt and drink the entirety of your set, you'd be more prone to getting hit by lightning than suffering any ill effects from touching and playing with your chips. The lead in poker chips thing came so far out of anything that resembled a decent fear that it shouldn't have even been a whisper of an issue. There are so many people out there that are searching for the slightest reason to complain about "health concerns" that if they ever saw how a piece of corn was grown they'd never eat food as long as they lived, and the whole lead non-issue was a byproduct of that.

Thirded. Unless you ingest your chips somehow in some significant quantity, and that means eating or grinding up and inhaling, then its a non-issue. Lead is not a carcinogen, it doesn't give you cancer. There's more stuff on your paper money to worry about than your home chips!

I'm not worried about myself... please give me a little credit. That health alert was issued after my 18-month old spent plenty of time playing with Dad's new Pharaohs, and provided me quite a scare. Not ready to jump back into something that kept me up for a week... call me an over-protective parent.

I am the same way. Yeah, there's probably nothing wrong with letting the kiddo play with them every so often, but why take the (infinitely small) risk for your kid OR your chips?

EmptyPocs--since you think it's OK to have the young'ins play with clay, I'm having my 15-month old daughter give your new ASMs a run-through before I stamp them... I KID, I KID...

My rule: kiddo doesn't play with clay chips, period.

It's not over-protective at all. I do think it's a big deal, especially for kids. I am not a health nut at all, but I know that once lead is in your body, it doesn't leave-- it just hangs around forever, messing up your nervous system.

The damage to the nervous system from lead poisoning can be permanent, but there are several methods for removing lead from the bloodstream once lead is detected.
