Re: Mixing Quarters & Fifty-Cent chips?

For cash games I like lots of different denoms, as long as they are significantly different looking.

Re: Mixing Quarters & Fifty-Cent chips?

i HAVE- 5C,10C,25C,50C,& $1 CHIPS IN MY CASH GAME SET.

I USE THE 5C,10C,25C & 50C TOGETHER AND FOR HIGHER LIMITS, THE 25C,50C, AND $1 CHIPS. THIS IS THE SET UP FOR MY BCC FAN OF CARDS CHIPS.(600PC SET)

EVERYONE I PLAY WITH LIKES THE SETUP AND LOTS OF CHIPS. MAKES US FEEL LIKE OUR MONEY LAST LONGER.

Re: Mixing Quarters & Fifty-Cent chips?

50 centers are hard to use efficiently.
The only really 'clean' way to do it would be to find a bunch of $2's to go with them.
I'd say get rid of the 50's since you just got more quarters already.

Then you can go get more $1's.....

And then we can talk about your $1 chip choice ad nauseum.
or ?

Re: Mixing Quarters & Fifty-Cent chips?

Totally a matter of preference, but I really like using 25˘ and 50˘ denoms in my .25/.50 games. All of my players like them too, it keeps TONS of 25˘ chips off the table.

Re: Mixing Quarters & Fifty-Cent chips?

Agreed 100% and don't see it as being a lot different than casinos that employ $2s and $3s for their $1/2 and $1/3 NL games.

I'm thinking about just playing .50/.50 w/ only fifty-cent chips rather than .25/.50 with a mix of both. Or all quarters. I'd only use the quarters when we play .05/.10 and .25/.25. But I really haven't decided on anything yet. Still figuring this out.

The best way to figure it out is to play it. If you need to change chips to often then you need more of those demons.

Good luck.....

Re: Mixing Quarters & Fifty-Cent chips?

I am a fan of the 4X to 5X rule, but if you have a lot of action in the $.25 to $.50 range, it might be more efficient to have both. I have played $.25 / $.50 cash games and found that it was nice to have both in play... then $1 and $5.

Now after a while, when there is a lot of money on the table, the quarters become trash and we usually step up the blind making the quarters redundant.

If you are buying for a specific game that you have going, why not test the game out with some cheap non-denoms before investing in nice chips to see what works for your game... You hate to "throw away" chips, but the little investment might save you a lot depending on how much you were planning to spend.
