Hi ChipTalk, this is my first post but I have been lurking for about 2 weeks ago. I also posted this same question on HPT but I am not sure how big the overlap between the forums is. Any way here goes:
I bought this set of Chips direct from Paul-Son a few years ago (maybe 7 – I forget) as you can see, these are Paul-Son Top Hat and Cane Solid Hotstamps in Red, Green, Charcoal and “Blurple” with my initials.
After a fair number of games and tourneys over the years, these chips are as nice as they day I bought them. I absolutely love them. The set numbers 650 and as I went a tried to order another 350 to fill it out to an even thousand this past month I discovered that Paul-Son does not sell these to home users anymore. Hell, they are not even Paul-Son anymore. I also discovered that there appear to be some nice alternatives out there. I also found this site (and a very cool site it is too.)
So this leads me to my questions: I am looking to get a second set to complement these chips. I had a home game last weekend that was a dealer’s choice cash game followed by a NLHE tourney. Using the exact same chips for the game and then the tourney caused some minor confusion and I would like to get a different set of solid hotstamps to alleviate this (probably in a different color scheme). Since the Paul-Son set is top of the line I do not want to buy anything that pales in comparison.
After reading this forum and HPT it seems as if the ASM or BCC solid hotstamps will be best for this second set. I have already contacted ASM, BCC and Holdem Poker Chips for samples of their solid hotstamp offerings. I also like the Cigar and Snifter mold but that does not seem to be available in solid or hotstamped.
So – any opinions? ASM, BCC, others and which mold and colors (and are there any other options?) I am only interested in solid hotstamp with custom initials and these have to stand next to my TH&C set.
Fire away. And thanks from a “newbie (who has been playing home poker for 42 years!!!)
Paul
