Chips: 313 | | | Chip set values I've just been buying chips for a couple months now so the whole thing is still very mysterious to me. I'm still at the point where I haven't settled on which chips I'll be keeping long-term, so I am in the position of having bought chips that I am already planning on selling.
What's up with falling/fluctuating prices on various sets, e.g Caesar's at Sea and Jack Niemann's? What about PNYs and Vineyards? What were prices like when these chips first came out? There's been a rack of Vineyard $1s for BIN $160 on ebay for while, which seems like a great price, but nobody's biting. Same for a set of Wyndham OSJs, which have been around for weeks at about $1/chip.
I'm not looking to treat chips as an investment or to make money off them, but I would like to get a better sense of how the market works. I think gamblers are looking to get their money in when they are ahead, and I haven't figured out when that is with chips. |

Chips: 58 | | | Re: Chip set values Supply, demand, newer chips becoming available all affect chip prices.
Best advice is to buy the chips you like, and you'll then not have to worry about the price. That said, if you change your mind as much as I do, you'll struggle to do that and end up having owned several chips sets.
Search for threads on Vineyard/PNY pricing, there's several. My only direct experience has been with the PNY which I think have taken off a little in the last few months, after the original seller appears to have sold off all his chips. |

If I were to have bought all the Vineyards and sat on them for a few years, I would have made money. If I had bought all the President New Yorkers with the exception of the $500 and $1000's and tried to make money, I might have gone broke with those as well. Quote:

Chips: 313 | | | Re: Chip set values Yeah, I'm wondering what will happen to Caesar's at Sea and Jack Niemann's after the Chiproom is sold out.
I'm also curious about demand issues-- there can't be that many of us who are into these chips, and I'm assuming it is a pretty new hobby, so maybe the market is just getting saturated and prices are headed south? I really have no idea, maybe some of the "old-timers" have some insight.
edit: Noelsarchs, didn't see your reply before I write this. Like I said in OP, this isn't about investing in chips. Mainly I am looking to get my money in with the best if it, it is a poker thing after all.

Chips: 1,202 | | | Re: Chip set values Ok here is my take.
1. decide what the set is for Cash or Tourney?
2. the break down for each demons. Example T1500 or T5000, Cash .05/.10 or 1/2
3. Material ( clay, ceramic, or plastic) Paulson, Chipco, Bud Jones ect...
4. Budget (how much you want to spend) FYI, Budget could moved to 1. too.
Once you decide or set on one or two set then ask for the pricing.
I hope this help if not PM me.....BTW, sorry I don't have any chips to sale to you.
Good luck my friend. |

Chips: 13,228 | | | Re: Chip set values When they first came on the market, you could buy all the PNY denoms for $2 a chip, including $1000s. I only wish I bought more than 50 of them at the time but I thought that was a bit expensive

Chips: 1,052 | | | Re: Chip set values I think that what you generally find is that chipsets from known casinos hold their value much better than those from casinos and card rooms that folks for the most part haven't heard of. The Dunes, Condado Beach, Ritz and Vineyard sets are good examples. I believe that the Sahara tourney sets will follow suit especially after the Sahara is imploded. We've kind of created a market for the PNYs even though they're from a card room that never even opened. No history there though like there is with some of the others.

Chips: 102 | | | Re: Chip set values I agree with buying the chips you like the most. Get a lot of samples and take your time deciding. I used very inexpensive chips for a long time before choosing the clay chips I wanted to get for the long haul.
My take on casino chips is that even though a particular set will sell out, there will always be new casino chips hitting the market leaving the buyer with many choices. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
