Yeah - I think that this may be a fairly recent issue. I got my Sopranos in October and I originally got a mix of black chips - some were loose and looked like yours (well formed edge-spots and a slightly glossy finish) while the ones in wrapped rolls were duller and had the poorly formed spots. Tom at DCG was kind enough to swap out the blacks so that they all looked the same - unfortunately, I ended up with all the duller type.
Since I got two different types of the black, I think that the manufacturer may have changed their plastic. Maybe the 'new', duller black plastic flows more easily in the mold and this is why it bleeds across the white base material.
Like in you photo, my other colors are much better - although there is the occassional mis-formed spot (like I notice on some of your reds).
This also affected the grey sopranos that I got.
Don't get me wrong - I think that they are a great chip for the price and I really like them. However, I posted so that others considering Sopranos go in with eyes wide open.
