Advice for buying Casino Paulson chips.

HI guys,

I've been kicking this idea around for some time. I want to buy real casino chips, Top Hat and Cane Paulsons to make a nice cash set. I am clueless about prices. What is the most desired chips out there ? Where are the best sites to visit, Ebay, MTM sales here, other sites. How do I know if I am getting a good offer? I don't mind paying a little more, but I don't want to go overboard. I think mixing and matching different casinos is the way I want to go. Is there a site with pics of what is realistically available on the chip market ? Any advice would be appreciated. thanks.

Re: Advice for buying Casino Paulson chips.

You have made a fine choice. In my humble opinion, nothing comes close to a set of real casino Paulson's. The most desireable set is totally up to you. Whatever you think looks the best. However, if you are look for "popular" sets, the King or Queen I should say is the Olivia Poker Hall chips. They are beauties. However they are very hard to come by and will cost you about $3 each. Other very popular sets are the Crystal Parks and Vineyards. They are spendy too but not on the Olivia $$$ scale.

If you are looking for a mixed set (my favorite), just start looking around. Determine what denominations you want and go from there. If you are looking for $.25's the Detroit Casino's (MGM, Motorcityand Greektown) all have great inlayed quarters. Depending on which casino you are looking for they run from $150 per rack and up. There are some cool hotstamp fractionals out there that may be a bit cheaper but not by much. Fractionals are awesome chips but tend to be in high demand.

The fun part is finding which $1 you want to play. Choose a favorite casino and post a WTB thread. It is likely that someone from CT live realitively near there and will be willing to pick the chips up for you for a small fee.

From that point choose a $5 and you are good to go. You may want a $25 or a $20 for rebuys as well or if you play big games a $100.

A general rule of thumb is about $150 per rack for minty chips. Fractional's and $20's run higher.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Re: Advice for buying Casino Paulson chips.

Here's what I would do. Go to the Poker Chip Gallery forum and start opening threads and looking at chip pictures. You'll see picture after picture of chips. Once you find chips you like, go to the Member-to-Member sales forum and do a search in just that forum for the chips you are looking for. Look at the threads where they have been solid to get a good idea of what the prices are for those chips.

Also, if there's a specific type of chips you like and want to know the price, just ask! Post a thread or find someone who looks like they have plenty of experience buying that particular chip and PM them asking what you should expect to pay.

Re: Advice for buying Casino Paulson chips.

This may not be an option for you but I've had some success recently by going to actual casinos and buying chips from them. Ask at the cage, say that you are a "collector" and want to buy as many as possible. You will then have actual Paulson casino chips, and will spend much less on them as compared to buying them from CT members or on eBay. So, if you live near a casino that uses Paulson chips, give it a try. So far I've got 200 .50 hotstamps and 150 $1 Paulsons.
