is something wrong with me?

i was planning on ordering a set of pro clays. my friend had a sample set (1 of each of the 5 original colors). i loved how they felt.

to make sure i wanted them i ordered 5 of each of the 8 colors off discountcasinogear for $7 total (that site has amazing prices. 13 cents a chips, lowest i've seen for them). so i ordered 40 chips total.

just got the chips today. i hate how they feel. REALLY chalky. i seriously like the feel of my dice chips better. is there something wrong with me?

and question #2, what's another chip that's <30 cents that's maybe not as chalky? i've read a bunch about progens and dp china clay and nexgens. anything else i should consider?

im just confused, i thought these were supposed at least mimic the feel of real clay chips, but to me, it doesn't even come close.

faux clay, why did you have to disappear.

Re: is something wrong with me?

Dunno about Pro Clays, never seen e'm.

However, as far as other cheap options are concerned:

1. Sopranos (7.5c ea. from DCG). I have a set of these and really like they way they play and sound.

2. 'Crown Wheatears' or a new variant thereof, 'Texas Holdem'. 14c each (before 5% off code:HPT5) from:

Poker Chips - Clay Poker Chips - No Metal Insert Texas Holdem Clay 11.5 Gram Poker Chips

Poker Chips - Clay Poker Chips - No Metal Insert Crown Wheatear Clay 11.5 Gram Poker Chips

I was sent a couple of the Texas Holdem ones in a sample pack. The rest of the samples were slugged and not worth looking at, however, I just can't stop fiddling with the two Texas Holdems. Maybe its because I'm in TX and the molded reliefs (longhorn, boot, cowboy hat and horseshoe) gel with me. However, they feel real good and haven't marked or scuffed. They are are definately not ABS - they have a rubbery/earthy smell.

While I think that both Wheatears and TX Hold'ems are made from the same material, I haven't ever fondled a wheatear so can't confirm.

Both get good write up (one after another on the same page):

Home Poker Tourney - ChipsandGames.com Poker Chip Reviews

Get samples - Chipsandgames send a free sample pack and will discount the shipping cost off subsequent orders.

P.S. Where did your friend get his sample set? Could the ones from DCG be different?

You may want to give Jim at the Chip Room a go. The Chip Room - Texas Hold'em and other poker supplies
Look at the Dunes Comm. they are .35 now that the group buy is over.
These are made by the same people that made the Desert Palms, only the centers are more recessed. good stuff.

You might want to check your temperature. Sounds to me like you're coming down with real clay chiponitis.

Unfortunately, if that's the case, there's no known cure. An expensive treatment exists, which involves purchasing and trading various fantasy and casino chips in an ongoing attempt to build the perfect set of poker chips.

Re: is something wrong with me?

I think the suggestion of the Dunes Comm.'s is a good one. Check them out. I hear good things and the style is a copy of one of the best chip designs out there.

Re: is something wrong with me?

If you haven't tried out progen's I think you should get a few samples. I recieved 80 of them last week to try them out and can't tell the difference w/ my eyes closed to Paulson's. The best part is they are $.28 a piece. You could get a set of 500 of these w/ custom labels for $200. BINGO!!! Good luck

Re: is something wrong with me?

Really good suggestions so far. Have you considered ceramics? The Coconut Tree chips are a good chip at a great price (.28 to .30). There are some that think the color schemes are too close, but that's the only main complaint I've come across. Cool theme, denoms on the chip, etc. Worth looking at. As a big supporter of higher education, I'd be happy to send you some samples if you'd like. I know how it is to be in college and poor - though it was many moons ago! PM me if you're interested.

Phil

Just another example of what makes CT such a cool place.
