Chips: 476 | | | Anyone ever discuss the ideal size ... of a cash set of casino chips ? When I think about it, I think about a full rack vs. a real dollar amount. You figure how many chips you want in front of ?? 10 ?? people and... |

Chips: 9,389 | | | Re: Anyone ever discuss the ideal size ... It really depends on what games you play and how large you want the set to be.
We play 1/2 NLHE and rarely 2/5. In the casinos, those games are played with a few $1 chips and a BUNCH of $5 chips. So that's what I get, plus enough higher denom chips to cover us if the action gets heavy.
If I was limited to say 300 chips, I would get many fewer $5s and more higher denom chips, but the stacks in front of each player would be smaller.

Yum. | WOW, just in the last couple of days, I've been thinking about a 300 dollar buy-in, and I just upped the numbers on my Desert Palms set , for a 300 dollar buy-in for 10 people. 1 x 200 , 2 x 240 , 3 x 240 , 5 x 200 (nice chip) , 10 x 80 , wish there was a 20 |

The 96 chips would be for a $500 buy-in and for a $300 buy-in, which is more the norm for $1/2, you'd get 56 x $5 and 20 x $1s for almost 4 full stacks of 20.
I'll fix the original post now. Quote:

Chips: 3,049 | | | Re: Anyone ever discuss the ideal size ... I try to start people off with 30-40 chips. For a .25-.50 nl game, this means 20x.25 and 20x$1, for $1-$2 nl game 20x$1 and 16x$5. Anything more than that ($25 in the small game and $100 in the big game) and I use $5 and $25 chips respectively. So to start, I like 200 quarters, 200 dollars, and 160 fives at least. Throw in some 25's or 20's and you should be set for a full sized cash game. |

Chips: 724 | | | Re: Anyone ever discuss the ideal size ... I modeled my .25/.50 cash set starting stacks similar to what you'd get in a casino 1/2 NL game (as jldecarlo mentioned above).
We do a $40 buy in and I'll dish out 40x$1 chips to everyone, and I'll give myself a few ones and a bunch of quarters to make change for everyone. The total number of quarters on the table is usually about 12 per player (although 8 per player is sufficient).
My cash set was designed for 8 people and consists of:
100x.25
300x1.00

100x5.00 | This is, IMO, a superb breakdown especially for $0.25/$0.50 NL.
