I want a really nice set of chips to encompass all cash games I think I will ever have. I came up with a set for 550 chips…since I like the 550 chip cases, and then will buy 6 racks to use at my house to show them off/distribute. I came up with the breakdown of..

10 $ 500 chips (not sure if they will ever get use, but I love the look of most 500 chips and maybe they will come in handy if I do a big, big game)

So, first question – does all of that look good?
Now, I am in love with the Samurai’s. They are things of beauty. I was thinking of a Matsui Group Buy but 1) don’t have the money right now and 2) I can’t get over how great the Samurai’s look. (I will be using the ¼ pie mint/chocolate for the 20 dollar chip---second question – how limited are they?)
Okay, so I’m going over the totals and thinking about how much money I need for, what I consider, the ultimate set. I add in the chips, a 550 case, 10 chips spacers, and 6 racks (already have two decks of desjgns) and I see a price tag of about 700 bucks. Now, that is a hefty price for anyone and me…being in college and broke…it’s almost not doable. So I think to myself, “I can’t give up on the Samurai’s!” and I came up with a fun and wallet friendly way to accomplish my dreams. I am going to TURN MY FAUX CLAYS INTO SAMURAI’S. I had 600 Faux Clay’s that I just finished selling and am transferring 50 bucks into full tilt. I’ve been reading up on bankroll management and I want to take the ultimate test. I want to bring the faux clay money up to 750 bucks, cash out and buy a fantastic new set of Samurai’s all before….October? I dunno, sooner the better I guess. Reading up on some bankroll management and putting in some of my own thoughts I came up with some rules to follow…
1) I must have at least 10 buy ins (50xBB in NL/PL and 25xBB in Limit) to play at the level.
2) I can not lose more than two buy ins for a sitting (will allow me to two table w/o reloading)
3) Sittings must be at least 90 mins apart. (try to eliminate my tilting, and so I can take a break and all of that jazz)
4) If my money at the table becomes 4 x Buy in (200xBB in NL/PL and 100xBB in Limit) I need to get away and be very happy.
5) Two losing sittings in a row (losing 4 Buy Ins) must take 36 -48 hour break (depending on weekday/weekend…since I am working 40 hours a week I will allow a shorter break on the weekend)
and I must strictly follow these guidelines for my Bankroll (BTW I am going to be playing limit O8 and most likely PL Holdem to change it up at times---more than likely start with PL)
So for Limit O8/Holdem
Bankroll Play at Buy In
50-249 .25-.50 15
250-499 .50-1 25
500- 999 1-2 50
For PL O8/Holdem
Bankroll Play at Buy In
15-149 .05-.10 5
150-249 .10-.25 15
250-499 .25-.50 25

PS. I will keep a running commentary on my progress in here. I think this will be fun as hell and a great chance to learn a lot about my game and how strictly I can follow guidelines and stay within my BR. (Yes 10 x buy in is low…BUT that is the minimum and well, that is my chance when I will take a shot at the higher limits) There is also an amazing prize at the end. I haven't played much online poker in months, so I don't have any useful advice. Just stay within your limits, and control your tilting!!! Good luck!

You can go to the Full Tilt site and read about Chris Ferguson's method for doing nearly the same thing, only on a larger scale, turning $0.00 into $10K. He's working on it, and the main thing I remember from his article was that he refused to put more than 5% of his bankroll on the table at any given time.
I wouldn't include any Omaha in the mix, though, the swings are so big in that game, especially at the lower limits where the play is so unpredictable. I'd stick to micro-stake NLHE, if it were me. And SNGs. I'd probably go for as many 6-max SNGs as possible once I had enough roll to sustain 20 buy-ins.

You know, completing the 10th year of university myself (hope to have my PhD by the end of the year), I think you're nuts. Well, your intentions are good (I own way more Samurais than I should afford), but there are many faster and less risky ways of making $750. You could *gasp* get a job! I mean, I assume you're not taking classes over the summer, and if you have a job to pay for school, then it doesn't take much overtime to rake in an extra $750. Unless you're playing big stakes, online poker is going to take far more time if you want to turn $50 into $750. If you're a good player, it's doable... but you could tutor highschool students in the evenings for $20/hr and make the money in far less time while doing something that - although not as fun, perhaps - might be useful to your future studies.
By the way, I paid for my Samurais tutoring university students (mostly pre-meds) for $40/hr.

While, yes, this may be insane I still am going to try it. My main problems I've had with online poker so far is that I always played above my bankroll on the site. I haven't played online for a few months and I want to give it a shot one more time (and more than likely the last---I just prefer live poker and have a better time---thus why my goal would be to buy the samurai's and set up a home game)
