How did you get a rack of real casino chips?

I've seen many people here on Chiptalk getting there hands on racks of different casino chips but what interests me is how to get your hands on them. Never been to an american casino myself so I don't know what it's like over there, but at the casino I work at here in Sweden I don't think we would let anyone buy a rack of fives or twenties. (and that's because we only sell tokens in the cashier, you have to exchange them for cash chips at the tables and the table float would run out of chips faaast if someone came and wanted 100 fives )

So how do you guys do it?

I just go to the cashier's cage and ask for a rack of what ever i want. They give them to me telling me the chips are mine i can do whatever i want with them

Re: How did you get a rack of real casino chips?

Not that easy for me thats for sure the Detroit Casinos really have cracked down on BUYING chips persay.
The cages here would only sell you chips if you buttered up the manager. Secondly 2 of the three casinos have stopped all together.
They all say go to the table, but like you said they will be short on any quantity purchase. It takes many trips.

So needless to say I have only 1 Rack of Fractionls for each Detroit casino left, for sale and I won't be trying to get any quantities anymore.
Not to thread jack on this part of the topic only making a point.

Chris

Sounds like they might be more frugal with chips in Sweden.

I've always had the best luck in going to the poker room, if there is one at the casino. Usually there is a poker room cage/cashier, and they're often much nicer because they're used to giving out racks for players to take to the tables.

Cool, didn't think it was that smooth.

Yeah, we dealers are told not to give out large numbers of a single denomination. If someone changes a 1000 bill(SEK) and want 50's, I would probably give out 5 100's and 10 50's. And then when they leave the table we ask if the want to change into larger denominations.

If we only had a poker only cashier

I agree w/Tomb, it seems like at or close to the poker room is the best bet.

I have to agree with this 100%. I went to MGM Detroit yesterday, and went through the cage-to-table shuffle just like this. They absolutely refused to sell me a single .25¢ chip. My husband extracted a small measure of revenge on them, though, by winning $140 on a single $15 hand of Three Card Poker. Then I went to Motor City, stood in line for ages to ask the cage to sell me 100 quarters. The cashier said "sure, no problem, but I don't have any right here", went to ask for some, then came back and said "no, that absolutely can't be done."

A 200-mile round trip, wasted.
