Anyone use their $2 and $3 chips in a cash game?

Several sets of playable casino chips are out there that include denominations such as $2 and $3 chips. Some that pop to my mind right off the bat are the New Sonny’s Casino and Vineyard’s Casino, Crystal Park Casino (all pictured below) and I am sure there are others. It seems to me that although these chips are extra-ordinarily sexy, they are somewhat useless and often times a hindrance in a cash game setup. I am sure that the chips were made for and used in either the $4/$8 or $8/$16 limit tables for the $2 chip and the $3 chips for the $6/$12 or $9/$18 limit games they spread. I would go a bit further and say that on these tables the odd denomination chips were the only chips in play on those specific tables.

Pics of the chips referenced above are pictured below and stolen by me from all over the place. The vineyards are HanahanStan's.

New Sonny's

Crystal Park

Vineyard Casino

This has been bothering me because I have a set of the New Sonny's without the $2 and $3 chips which I think are cool but I can't figure how to work them into my game... So a couple questions:

In a standard home game of say $1/$2 NL or $3/$6 Limit is their any logic to having a $1, $2, $3, $5 & $25 chip in play other than it looking cool?

Also, which setup would you prefer to have in your possession and why?
200 x $.25
500 x $1.00
400 x $5.00
100 x $25.00

--- OR ---

200 x $.25
400 x $1.00
150 x $2.00
150 x $3.00
200 x $5.00
100 x $25.00

Thanks and have a great weekend all!

I think you're undervalueing the cool factor!

The $2 and $3 chips come in handy for for 2/4 and 3/6 limit games. I've also used them in tournaments where players get the actual cash-value of their buy in. Not really necessary in any of these cases, but it's fun and players seem to enjoy having a variety of chips rather than huge stacks of all one color of chip.

Indeed I do....

in the $1/2 and $2/4 games I find them to be a very handy addition...

necessary, not really. Useful, yes...

I'm also in the process of getting $20 chips to use in the cash games, instead of $25's....

You must know why I am agonizing over this!

The above is my preference. Even if I was running a 2/4 or 3/6 game. While I do understand the cool factor (and it's more types of chips to have) I do like the idea of having big stacks of chips.

Re: Anyone use their $2 and $3 chips in a cash game?

I have a $2 and a $2.50 neither of which have seen much use due to the small stakes I typically host. But I would love to get them into some kind of action!

Of your breakdowns I would choose the second because those would be some wicked denoms to make bets with....

"I raise you tree-fiddy!" While tossing a .50, $1, and $2!!

What are the benefits of doing this? I have never heard of this before.

Thanks.

Jesse

The benefits are: an excuse to get more chips, and we use a $20 bill, not a $25 dollar bill - so a 20 makes more sense to use in a cash game.

I'm all about the $20 chip!
