Last night I played for the first time at the Borgata in AC. After buying a rack of chips the first thing I did was take a stack out to check them out. I noticed they were sticking together. After sitting for a while I asked around at the table and everyone said that they put magnets in the chips. I found it fairly hard to shuffle a stack. The chips were awesome, don't get me wrong. Nice gloss finish on them and all. But I sure didn't like the whole magnet thing. Has anyone else had the chance to use these chips? And what were your thoughts?
uummm, not sure if you're serious on the whole magnet thing.
The Borgata chips are Bud Jones and they tend to have some surface adhesion due to the flatness and slight recess, making them more difficult to shuffle. They could also have a whole bunch of gunk on them too making them plain old stickey.

The Borgata chips are beautiful, but so very annoying.
I can understand having this kind of chip in the WSOP-ME. The players end up having ~ 1000 chips in front of them. For the typical cash game, it is just a hassle to make sure you are throwing out the amount of chips you intent to. I find myself having to separate the chips when I try to complete a blind or only throw in a few chips.
Technically, it is not suction (which is negative pressure) but lack of air between the two objects, making them "stick" together. The normal air pressure affecting all things is around the objects, but is not able to affect the space between them because of the smoothness of their surfaces has pushed out the air. Same principle as when you have 2 panes of glass...very difficult to separate them, you need to slide them apart. OK, I'll shut up, now....
trump in gary used to have magnetic paulsons. no joke.
stickiness accounts for why they want to separate, but not for why they would jump to each other from small distances. they're out of play now, but they indeed had magnets.
