Chips: 1,037 | | | Clay or Ceramic I know there are people that prefer clay over ceramics and there are people that prefer ceramics over clay. The problem is, I have numerous sample sets of each. I have some ceramic WSOP replicas, some Desert Sand samples I scored off a buddy of mine the other day, some T-mold blanks some ASM's that my uncle let me fondle for a while and I love them all.
I know, I know, I know: why not just get a set of each? Answer: I don't need a set of each (read: my wife would absolutely kill me...it was hard enough to convince her into letting buy my first "real" set). Trust me, it's not that I don't want a set of each....I just can't.....yet.
So, I need the advice from the proponents of each. Convince me whether to buy ceramic or clay. Please. Cost is not really an issue since I'm only going to be getting a set of 500-650. Again, I know it boils down to what I want to play with every week/every other week, but I would really appreciate the voices of experience on this matter....I've only ever used dice chips (BOO...I know) and Nexgens.
Thanks in advance.
p.s. Yes, I've read all the reviews in the "Reviews" section and yes, I've done a search on this topic. I didn't feel like sorting through the gazillion threads. Again, thanks!!!!!!! |

But it's a brief overview of the Pros and Cons. http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/poker-...y-ceramic.html
Personally, I prefer real clay chips because of the feel, the sound, and because they are most like real casino chips. But I have a few ceramic sets because of the artwork and/or cost.
Good luck . . . and of course the answer is always "buy both"! |

everything that needs to be said has already been said ... are you thinking custom? Quote:

when I think casino chips I primarily think Paulson and Chipco (not just Paulson). |

when I think casino chips I primarily think Paulson and Chipco (not just Paulson). | Of course you're right . . . some casinos use Chipcos or Bud Jones (and a few use RT Plastics). I guess I think of "most" meaning most casinos -- in fact, the overwhelming majority of casinos in the U.S. use Paulson clay chips. That's why I think of Paulsons when I think of real casino chips.
And I like the looks and feel of Chipcos, too. |

Chips: 111 | | | Re: Clay or Ceramic I have both ceramic's in NJ skulls and DS's and clay in the Pharaoh's. Over 1,000 in each set and I can say that I much prefer clay over ceramic. |

Chips: 39 | | | Re: Clay or Ceramic I currently have 4 sets ranging from 1,000 Nexgens for a larger tourney set to a 300-piece set of Fauxs for my travel set. My two primary sets are my mixed Clays cash game set of 500 and my small tourney set of NJ Skulls. I spent about six months slowly transitioning from the skulls to the clays as I was able to afford them in different denoms, and I and all my players seem to like the clays better.
I prefer the slightly quicker clack of clay chips over the brighter ringing of ceramics, although notihing like the din of dice cheaps. I find both types to be stackable and manueverable in stacks of 20-30, and really, that's all you're doing in a set to play with anyway. For me, it boils down to if I want custom artwork on my chips, I'd want custom ceramics, but for sound and feel I prefer the clays. |
