I heard it wasn't the same, but I can't vouch for that. | I got a sample set of all the denoms ($5, $25, $100, $500, $5,000, $25,000, $100,000) from Wedgerock + Strange, who had purchased them from play.com in the UK. Before you ask, there is no $1,000 (for reasons that might be made clear below).
I bought 600 of these (4 x 150-chip sets) for my best man (i.e. wedding) - to replace his cheapo dice chips. They're VERY nice for a slugged composite chip. There's a lot of discussion of these chips in other threads (do a search). Most agree they were made for Cartamundi by B&G (a GPI company). They are very heavy at 14g each, and stack and shuffle very well. They have a deep sound to them; very few flaws in the plastic; injection marks are barely noticeable, even if you're looking for them.
In North America, you can only find sets of the low denoms ($5, $25, $100, and $500). Unfortunately, the 200-chip set comes with awkward numbers of these denominations (75, 75, 25, and 25, respectively). That's why I got 4 x the 150-chip set, rather than 3 x the 200-chip set to make a nice 600-chip tourney set for my friend. These are not used / seen in the movie, but were created in the same theme for retail.
The higher denoms ($5,000, $25,000, $100,000) that appear in the movie are available, but only from European distributors - probably because B&G is based in France. I ordered a heads-up set from pokershop.dk. It'll be relatively expensive (nearly $1/chip) by the time you have them shipped from Denmark, but if you really want 'em, it's the only way to get them right now (... well, you can buy some from locutios, who also got them from pokershop.dk, but at a mark-up). I haven't received them yet, but they're on their way!
I understand that the DVD set with a sample poker chip is available from Walmart (not sure if on-line or in-store).

Reason: oops - got the high denoms from CTer "strange", who's in the UK.

I think i am going to put all mine together and sell them or sell off sample sets. I would need a 1000 chip for these to work for me. I think, however, palm imports has this blank and could make a 1000 chip. will have to investigate further. |

I think, however, palm imports has this blank and could make a 1000 chip. will have to investigate further. | I read that too. I got the impression the blanks only come in the low denom colours (red, green, black w/ orange, and purple; identical to the $5, $25, $100, and $500), so it would be difficult to make a useful $1000 out of those. The low-denom sets (like the 600-chip set I put together) are good for T1000-T5000 tournaments (perfect for T2000 + rebuys, if I remember correctly). The high-denom set I ordered has:
50 x $5,000 (50)
75 x $25,000 (70)
100 x $100,000 (80)
---------------
225 chips total (200)
The numbers in brackets are how many will ordinarily be in the case, which makes for exactly $10,000,000 in chips, so a T5,000,000 heads-up set (plus extras kept somewhere else for colour-ups, if desired - I had to order in 25-chip intervals). Also, I can use this as a 5-player T1,000,000 (10-10-7 starting stacks), which is just a T1000 tournament with an extra "000" tacked on the end! Hey, anybody notice that: 10-10-7 => "007" starting stacks??
Blake27 was designing a ceramic replica set with more denominations including a $1000, but they wouldn't add to the injection-molded set very well - I fear you would have to go with all ceramic replicas. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
