Moral dilemma, I Sold My Dice chips.

Moral dilemma, I just sold a 650 set of dice chips to a young co-worker for $30.
I told them they were slick. That they had a metal slug, and gave him clinked not clacked demonstration. I even compared them disparagingly to my ceramic replacements. Told him why labels don’t work well on them. After informing him that people that play a lot of poker hate them, he still handed me the thirty bucks with a smile.

The real question is.
Why do I still feel bad?

Only 500 more to go.

Dice chips are like a Big Wheel. They teach you how to peddle, but they don't teach you how to ride. Eventually you need a real bike.

Don't feel bad.

It takes all kinds.

Be happy that you made $30 on the deal.

Wow, you make dice chips sound so... not as bad as they are. I agree with Buzzer. And you shouldn't feel bad about taking the guy's money. I mean, it sounds like you did a full-fledged demonstration for him. If he just wanted some chips to fool around with or host an entry level type home game, I'm sure he's thrilled. Now he can have his game and you've made $30! It works out for everyone. Hopefully the guy will grow out of his newly acquired dice chips, but he may never. We play at a really good game twice a week with the crazy chips that are sorta like dice chips, but somehow seem worse. What makes it worse is that they guy always has a spread of snacks and drinks and the majority of people there are really good players. The game is too good not to get better chips. Every time we are on the way home, Harlequin tries to think of a new way to convince the host to buy better chips. I know this guy has been having his game for years and he's not budging.

It was your first kid. Feeling a little bad is ok. Now you need to move on.

It sounded like you were doing your best to discourage the sale. It's good to be honest, but I'm guessing your not in sales.

Re: Moral dilemma, I Sold My Dice chips.

I dumped my 550 dice chips with 2 chip racks, 2 decks of cards, dealer, small blind, big blind buttons, and a broken case for $12.

You warned your friend, and he was aware of what he was buying. Some people are content with having dice chips, and it's usually a step up from what they have/their first set of chips. If/when he gets tired of them (and ends up here) he'll pawn them off on another friend who is just starting up. It's the circle of dice chip life!

Re: Moral dilemma, I Sold My Dice chips.

Yep. We started with quarters. Then I bought a set of diamonds and everyone was like, "These are cool. But do we need chips?" Then eventually I wanted to upgrade so I got some dice chips and gave the diamonds to my brother. Then last November it was time for the big leagues. Took $300 out of my bankroll and bought my new custom Chipcos. I love them sooooo much. But I might need to do an add-on.
