Does Anyone Sand or File Down their Paulson Clay Straight Edges?

I read somewhere that for people who don't like the look and feel of brand new clay chips, there is an option (instead of waiting for the chips to get that used look/feel with the rounded edges through infrequent home play) to actually file or sand the corners a little to get them started.

Has anyone tried this? I'm interested in thoughts before I try something and end up ruining a set. Thanks

DON'T DO IT!!! They won't take much playing with to break them in so the corners don't feel as sharp and they are easier to shuffle...I would stay away from the sandpaper

the very thought makes me cringe!!

Maybe worse than the suggestion some have made to place them into pillow case and run them thru the dryer

Re: Does Anyone Sand or File Down their Paulson Clay Straight Edges?

I wouldn't use sand paper either. I love shuffling brand new paulsons over and over and gradually waring them down then cleaning them off and doing it again. Each time they get easier and easier to shuffle . The oil from your hands eventually gets them softer and after a couple of weeks the chips are buttery soft and seem to jump into a stack together. Sand Paper would ruin that whole experience. Shuffling paulsons gives them a extra bit of character and its almost like the chip needs a human hand touching it to reach its full potential. Its a special experience for me and something I don't share with anybody except maybe some of the people on this site. My wife sees me playing with chips and dismisses it as an annoying habit . She doesn't get it.

Re: Does Anyone Sand or File Down their Paulson Clay Straight Edges?

THAT"S A HORRIBLE THING TO DO!

I use a spoon...less apt to damage anything....knocks down that razor edge on BC's...I swear I've been cut by my T-molds. Personally I don't think paulsons need it...they're soft and those edges will ease quickly. BC's are harder and ....I swear I cut myself.

yeah, if you're going to do anything mechanical to the edges just use a steel.

Any old dull piece of metal should work fine.

It would be like dipping your toothbrush in the toilet to get it wet.

I think I get cuts too when shuffling chips. Usually on the first bend along the inside of my right index finger. These can't be paper cuts, and I don't really use tools all that often, so I'm thinking it has to be chips.
