What is the deal with getting chips from casino-run tournaments? I really like chips like these. I'm going to Atlantic City this week and am wondering what advice the CT nation has for, um, acquiring these chips. Trying to get a whole sample set seems like it might be too obvious, not to mention definitely hurting my chances in said tourney!

Also, if anybody wants chips from Atlantic City, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

I really don't think that walking out with a "set" of these chips is a possibility.

Yeah
I didn't mean a playable set... rather just a sample set.

I guess if you're doing good enough in the tourney, palming one of each denom might be possible, but I was specifically wondering if anybody had advice about doing so. Thanks!

um - the advice would be don't

If you are about to bust and snag a chip or two, you will probably have nothing to worry about. If you are doing well and are caught taking chips out of play, say bye bye. No excuse in the world will get you back in. There is no difference in the eyes of the casino between a collector who wants a souviener or two, and a cheater trying to pass an extra 1000 chip to a buddy who is shortstacked. The best advice is not to try.

At the Showboat, they specifically said that anyone caught taking tournament chips off the table would be ejected. They were nice chips, but not worth getting thrown out for.

Hm, I guess I didn't think about the possibility for cheating. Looking at that set of Aquarius tourney chips in the OP kept me from thinking rationally

I like playing and staying at the Showboat, and definitely don't want to get kicked out. I guess I'll just be content fondling them until I bust out...

A slightly related story: One of the first AC tourneys I played was a really cheap one at the Sands ($20+3 buy-in or something). I busted out in the first five minutes (with AA when 88 cold called me all the way to the river, which was, of course, an 8 ) and was allowed to buy back in as an "alternate" for the same $23. After I had bought back in and gotten my chips, I was waiting for the tourney director to seat me and the girl taking the buy-ins and handing out chips asked me if I wanted to buy back in. I think I could have just sat there and bought stacks of Sands NCV tourney Paulsons for $23 for quite a while!
