Got a trip planned for vegas in March- just me and a few poker buddies. Is there anywhere in town I can purchase a quality chip and what are the odds of me walking out with 5-10 one dollar chips from some of the casinos i visit.

um...... about 100% at any casino that is in business.
Something to be aware of though. Lots of the chips in Vegas and anywhere for that matter are NASTY. Your best bet is to go to the cage and ask nicely if they have any uncirculated chips you can buy. That usually, but not always, works. As a next best alternative sort through the chips you have in front of you while you are playing. Just keep the nicest ones.

Yeah, don't just palm em, go to the cage and tell them you want some for collecting. Then there's a good chance they'll give you new, mint chips.
NY, NY has the friendliest cage in the city...hands down!!

Every casino I've gone to in Vegas has no issue with you taking the chips with you. Especially the ones that print chips purposely for collecting like the Hard Rock and the Palms (and many many more are now doing it)
If the chip is a really high denom like a $1k or more they will definitely watch you, but other than that you have no worries

really? i would think they would love to sell anyone 1k chips to do as they please with them..
a lot of poker players keep high denom chips from different casinos..
and if you really wanted to, you could buy a couple hi denom chips, play a bit, slip one in your pocket.. i dont think it's impossible to get your hands on one if you really want to.. not to mention you can bring a rack of chips into your room no problem. but i was thinking the other day how it wouldn't be impossible for people on this board to counterfeit chips.. especially ceramics?
