Chips: 196 | | | Resale value of custom ASM's? Anyone have any idea of the resale value of custom ASM chips?
Just thinking out loud, but part of me wants to sell off 400 of my custom Hill Valley ASM chips and place an order with Blue Chip Company with the new options available because it would make me happier in the end.
I like my ASMs, but when I ordered we were very limited with colors and options, so they obviously aren't my absolute 'dream' set.
Keeping the ASMs and buying the BC's isn't an option just because I don' t really want to spend a whole lot out of pocket on chips this year.
Part of me thinks that maybe posting these on ebay saying "Back to the Future fans - Poker Chips" might attract enough money...Just looking for some thoughts.
I also have a stamp with BC already. If I were to go that route I could skip any set-up costs, although I would probably lean towards an inlaid chip.

1. It's possible to get custom chips at sub-$1
2. Casino Paulsons (depending on the rarity) can go for sub-$1
3. Fantasy Paulsons can go for less
4. Any attempt to justify a $1/chip price (by, for example, explaining the process and costs of custom chips) might get possible buyers to look into getting their own custom set from ASM, Blue Chip, Palm, etc.
While the "Back to the Future" tag on eBay might get some interest, I don't think it'll help increase the price.

Luckily you didn't customize them with your name, that will probably help. The Back to the Future reference may actually work in your favor. I would say that ebay is going to be your best bet, but unfortunately I don't see you getting that much for them. I don't think the general public will pay that much, and us chip guys know that for only a few cents more per chip, we can have them any way we want.

Yeah, Tex. I'm thinking ebay would be best bet since everyone here would know they could get fully customized chips from a different manufacturer for less $$$$.

With all the new chips coming out over the past year for under a buck each, it just makes it more difficult to sell these chips. |

(Just my $0.02 CDN.) | Good thing you are quoting CDN in this price, because I don't know of any authentic Paulson that goes for less than a buck each US$ |

A year or so ago I sold an old video card (PC) that I was hoping to get $20 for and it went for $76! I couldn't believe it. You never know when people are going to get into a bidding war.
Plus there are chip nuts out there that for some unknown reason don't know about are chip oasis/hell that we call Chiptalk. I've seen plenty of stuff that would only get $1 in MTM go for $1.50 or more.
Gl, and post a link when you sell so I can watch! |

The GB price was less than this wasn't it?
From the original GB thread: Quote:
Plain chip (no edge spots) with custom inlay = $0.80 each
214, 314 and 414 chips with custom inlay = $1.00 each (same as 312 chips)
414-2, 614 and 614-2 chips with custom inlay = $1.25 each (same as the other offer for 3D14 chips)
| Now I know you love your ASMs, but are you saying you think the cost for ASMs is too high compared to other options? |

Chips: 1,142 | | | Re: Resale value of custom ASM's? As many have stated above, the danger in a customize set is it's resale value. This is why I made sure that any customise set I get, i have to be completely satisfied with it. For a long time, I thought about selling my first ASM set (the 312s) but held back realising that i would be lucky to get 1/3rd of what i paid.
All that said, ebay is just like a poker table, you never know what fish will swim by. Lets face it, 99% of the population don't know jack about chips and their values. That said you should be able to sell these but be prepared to take a huge loss (id say half).
If i were you (and I can afford it) i would wait to see the result of other member's BCC chips before making this huge decision. Im guessing that the 1st arrivals (for the Dec sale options) should arrive within the next 4-5 weeks | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
