What is a "Paulson rack"?

It's a newbie question, but while acquiring a new cash set of Paulson Pharaohs, I've come across people buying and selling "Paulson racks".

So the real question is, "Do I need these?"

The non-Paulson plastic chip racks I have had for a while seem to be holding the new Pharaohs okay (though I haven't checked on them in the last few hours), but I would prefer not to be called out by a more knowledgable chip-connoisseur if the racks are sub-par.

Please help!

This custom ChipTalk link is built to show you only the real deal: Casino quality poker chips; Not the plastic chips that some sellers call "clay."

Re: What is a "Paulson rack"?

A rack manufactured by Paulson, for Paulson chips. New Paulson chips fit like a glove. They're not available to the home market, but you can usually get a few out of a casino if you try.

Do you need them? No.

Do you want them? Yes.

And your PM box will soon have a number of requests to buy them from you.

Re: What is a "Paulson rack"?

Someone will post the actual dimentions, but paulson racks are the narrowest, then chipco racks and then the generic ones.

I have the generic ones and I can fit 21 Paulson chips in a row. I also have Chipco and 20 Paulsons fit much nicer, not a tremendous amount of play, but still some.

If you can not get Paulson racks for your Paulson chips (or dont want to spend for them) - go for Chipco racks - Paulson chips fit better.

Re: What is a "Paulson rack"?

Racks that hold 20 Paulson chips without play are 66.7 mm. They can come from either Paulson directly (should have Paulson stamped on bottom) or they can be generic. Generally most racks seem to be 67.7 mm and 20 Paulson chips will be a loose fit or quite often you can fit 21 Paulson chips to a row.

Most casino I have been to seen to have 67.7mm racks or a mixture of 66.7 and 67.7mm.

Not all generic racks are going to fit 21 in a row, but it is an issue and you want to make sure they fit 20 Paulsons before you buy. 66.7mm=Paulson size

Once the chips get worn, it won't matter.
