What I've learned so far

I've spent about a month on this board and am just now starting to get a feel for the "lingo" and the different types of high-end chips.

I still feel a little behind on the various types of chips, costs, and options and was wondering if there was an article or comprehensive list that covered the differences between the brands, the options, and their general costs?

I'm continuously challenged withe reading a GB thread where there's a statement like "costs will be in line with previous ASM GB's". When some one asks what those are there's a reference to another thread and you have to go slog through that to find out that ASM's with edge spots are around $.95 each.

I'd like to write an article but I don't think it would be dynamic enough, nor do I think I'm actually knowledgable enough of the subject. Prices change and new chips come out all the time.

Something like

Brand: Type: Cost : Notes:
Chipco: Ceramic : ~$1.00 :Takes graphics well :
Nevada Jack: Ceramic: $.80 : matte finish
ASM: Clay : $.85-$.95: price depends on edge spot style
Paulson: Clay : $1 : Custom options are limited
Blue Chip: Clay: $.98 :
etc...

I'm thinking that we need something like the "chip features" page I found at http://www.homepokertourney.com/chips_charts.htm
but specifically for the custom and high-end chips that the population of this site loves so much.

Welcome to ChipTalk. Leave your wallet at the door, and never buy a set before getting samples.

Good idea, and ambitious. It would be nice to break down people's options in a clear, simple format. I think the work would be in keeping it updated as much as compiling the list, as options seem to be popping up, changing, and disappearing all the time.

I agree. My experience is that such a project is not something that one person does, it's something that you create a collaboration framework for. A message based forum like this one doesn't work for these types of projects, but a wiki is nigh perfect for it. I don't see a wiki available for this board software, but there are lots of wikis out there to choose from, wikipedia being the best example.

With a wiki, you create your list and folks start contributing to it. It gets stuff added to it and reformatted over time by whomever cares to work on it and can then be kept up incrementally.

The lord loves a working man.

Don't trust whitey.

If you catch it, see a doctor and get rid of it.

Re: What I've learned so far

FYI, you ASM prices are way out of date.

http://www.pokerchips.com/chips/chips_styles.html

Also, custom Paulsons are more a dream than reality unless you want to order like several hundred thousand through trademark.

BC clay prices can also be hard to judge as their pricing involves more options (chip price by style and artwork charges).

BTW, I think you have a good idea at coming up with a sticky post or article that discusses this.
