WPT 11.5gram "clay" chips

I purchased these chips a while back, way before I knew what good quality poker chips were, and most definitely before I found this website. I bought them off eBay, with no case, a set of 1000 for about $65 total including shipping, and bought a case for about $35 shipped from eBay after the chips arrived. The auction claimed that they were clay chips, but now that I see some of the clay chips out there, I'm not sure exactly what they are. The person I bought them from had never sold or bought any sort of poker chips on eBay, so I'm fairly sure they wouldn't know exactly what they are. Also, the case I have comfortably holds 1000+ "dice" chips, as well as my 12.2g WSOP Excalibur chips, but these chips fit 98-99 a row if I shove them in (49-50 in the last two rows) so they seem to be just a bit thicker than normal chips.

The chips don't stand on their sides, and appear to have some sort of seam around the edge of the chip.

My question is, does anyone know exactly what these chips consist of? I just purchased some Mr. Chip WSOP Replicas for my tournament set, and I have been mulling over whether or not to keep these for a cash game set, or upgrade to nicer chips. Any opinions/information is certainly appreciated. Thank you!

I was just reading some of the chip reviews in the review section here and someone cut those open and they have the metal slug in the center to give them weight even though they claim to be all clay.

Re: WPT 11.5gram "clay" chips

Thank you very much for the info! I went and looked at the chip review as well, and now I know where to look in the future.

Anyone else have opinions on the chips? I was considering buying NEXGEN chips for a cash game, but I guess they wouldn't be much different than these are. The feel and sound of these chips is fairly good, but they just don't stack well, and some of the middle white areas are a little faded to yellow (maybe about 100 total chips in mixed colors out of the 1000 total)

if you want chips that feel nice, stack well, and sound good, and can't afford ceramics or clays then get Faux Clay.

When I first came here without knowing any better, I posted my ebay auction link in a bunch of threads. Any other negs I got were from exposing some very questionable sales tactic from a couple of folks.

I don't have a set of these, but I do have about 50 or so samples. The samples I have are a LOT slicker than Nexgens and they spin like tops, so I'd say that going from these to Nexgens would be a pretty good upgrade. But as everyone always says, "Buy samples and find out what you like before spending a lot of $$."

If you don't want to cut them open, just see if they stick to a magnet. I just grab one off the fridge for testing.

a friend of mind has them, difinally not I would define as clay. usally you can not make a clay chip over 10.# grams anyhow without a weight in it.

Re: WPT 11.5gram "clay" chips

I just upgraded from metal slug plastics to Desert Palm "pure clay" I also got some samples of some Nexgens and a Paulson chip. The Nexegens to me just look better than most plastics but are the same wieght feel and sound not much of an upgrade if you ask me. The desert palm "pure clay" look, sound and feel great once you get used to the 9.5 grams instead of 11.5 on the plastics. The "pure clays" were very close to the paulson sample I got, with the Paulson being slightly heavier I believe they are 10 grams and that half of gram feels much better. I'm not a chip expert and my expierence is limited to the few chips mention above (no expierence with ceramics) but at .25 cents a chip I recommend th DP "pure Clay" if your on a budget and want some multi color chips.
