Chips: 51 | | | 11.5 gram non-metal insert? What chips are these? I was at a friend's house the other day and made some lame joke about how icky it is to play with such crappy chips. They seemed about the same as any 11.5 gram chip I've played with.
A discussion took place and he sweared that they were "all clay" (I didn't correct him about the concept of all clay) and I thought they had a metal insert.
He said if they did he'd be pissed cause he "paid a lot for them" (again, I didn't correct him).
So we cut one open. And it did not have a metal insert. I was shocked. They had just about the same feel as any other 11.5 gram chip I've played with and, in fact, might have been a little more slick (slippery).
They had a kings crown mold of some form. Other than that, they are fairly indistiguishable from most plastic chips... or so I thought -- has it been so long that I have held a cheap chip?
Any idea what these are? |

Chips: 64 | | | Re: 11.5 gram non-metal insert? What chips are these? There are several versions of chips that otherwise look like dice-chips, but don't have a metal insert. Was it one of these (see under "Clay with No Metal Center"): http://www.chipsandgames.com/
I have some samples of the Crown Wheatear and they aren't too bad |

There are several chips without metal slugs that are termed "all clay" because they don't have the slug, so I doubt they were all clay like your friend said (regardless of how much he thinks was "alot") ... I might have an idea which ones you're talking about ... these? |

Chips: 51 | | | Re: 11.5 gram non-metal insert? What chips are these? That looks like it, Jello.
And he said he paid about $100 for the set of 500... so I think our definitions of "a lot" are different. |

[any more than 6¢ for non casino grade is too much period, since faux clays and super diamonds are superior to ABS plastic chips IMO] |

Chips: 51 | | | Re: 11.5 gram non-metal insert? What chips are these? I agree...
Actually, i think he might have paid $100 for 1000 chips, I'm not sure. Either way, I am now a chip snob so if it isn't paulson (or blue chip, ASM, TR King, matsui, bud jones or chipco -- you get the idea), I don't want to play with it.
As far as what is a lot: I have a set of 850 PNYs, and to many people on this board even *that* is not a "lot"! (To me, I am still a little freaked I spent that much!) |

Any idea what these are? | Use a magnet next time to know if there is a slug in there. Of course if they're BJ or Abbiati's then don't bother. Sounds like they could be the Crown Wheatears which are good chips for the money IMO. |

Chips: 110 | | | Re: 11.5 gram non-metal insert? What chips are these? 11.5 G would be really heavey for a real clay chip. I actually don't think there are any I could be wrong. Msot clay chips are around 10 g . |
