Will....
Very nice addition to any collection! If you missed it, those are called
jetons, which is French for gaming token. It was made by B&G, the French/European element of Gaming Partners International (GPI), which includes Bud Jones and Paul-Son, which B&G bought several years ago.
Generally used in roulette, jetons have a beveled edge (looks like a flying saucer from an edge view), so that the croupe can scoop and lift them from the table with a special tool, similar to a craps stick. Good croupes can scoop and stack jetons with the tool, and on European roulette tables, they need the tool. Unlike American roulette tables, European tables are huge, staffed by three people, two with the tools and one that spins the wheel/ball.
Anyway, you mentioned that you ask travellers to pick up chips for you, and I imagine you also get your own in your owns travels. This is a form and method of becoming a collector! Are you familiar with ChipTalk's Collector's Corner Forum? I may have missed it, but I don't recall seeing a post there from you. Might I suggest you visit us, as we would love to see you (and your collection) in the Gallery forum.
Please feel free to visit.
