Can a hot stamp be re-done?. Discuss Can a hot stamp be re-done?, on ChipTalk.net the place to go for your Poker chips and gambling tips. Read it in Poker Chip General.
I tried searching for information about hot stamping but too many threads came up.
My question is whether hot stamps on chips can be re-done.
To clarify:
If a chip has a hot stamp already, and the hot stamp is removed, can another hot stamp be put on the chip after removal of the original?
I am new to hot stamped chips. I own a bunch of really nice chips that are hot stamped (1k of the "GB" bud jones/ASM dicar mold chips & 400-500 of the hot stamped "RON" chips that were on ebay). What I was thinking about was going through the laborious process of removing the current hot stamps and then having them re-done by a company who does hot stamping. I got the chips (which are in great to brand new condition) for really good prices and will use them either way - however I would love it if I could personalize them
Is there an indentation left by the original hotstamp? What issues may I run into? Should I even bother with this?
side note- I know this thread is worthless w/out pics of the originals- I will get them posted tonight when I get home.
Thanks in advance for opinions and info

Yes, the stamp leaves an impression in the chip. I suppose you could dig out the foil, but the impression would still be there.
Have you considered changing your name to RON ?
LOL - That wouldn't help with the "GB" chips
I actually got the "RON" chips for my best friend because..........you guessed it - his name is Ron. After I got them and saw how nice they are, as well as talking to him about chips in general, I determined he is not into poker chips enough to warrant giving them to him
The sad thing is this is my best friend that I have known since I was 5 - poker chip addiction wins in the end

As mentioned there will be an indentation from the original hotstamp. You can take off the foil, but it will be a major pain in the butt. We used to hotstamp over chips with a cancel die (that is what the Pson starburst die is for - it is a cancel die to cover over denoms or other designs). It all comes down to how much work do you want to put into them and ultimately what you want them to look like in the end. Best of luck with them.
Wouldn't you be better off just labeling them? I think some members are planning to do just that with the new group buy hotstamped Paulsons.
I thought about that but there really is not an area for the label. I believe the label would cause issues with stacking/ spinners - I could be wrong, I'll have to look at it again.

Maybe, if the center was recessed enough to accommodate a label. You would still have to smooth out the stamped area, because you get a tiny raised ridge where the die goes in.
The definitive answer is posted above from BCC (it's going to take some tedious work)
