Chips: 5,286 | | | The Perfect Stack Size While reading another thread, I asked myself a question that I'm not sure has ever been addressed in this specific fashion so I'll throw it out...
If I have a game that typically seats 5-8 people and I want to buy one set of playable chips from every group buy, and I don't care that I have the same exact # of chips in every set I own.
Assuming I want 5 denominations in each set, what is the perfect chip count?
Can this even be answered or do you have to provide more info? |

5 denominations for an 8 person game sounds like it's too much already. 3 colors would probably work better. I think there's a chart on a site called homepokertourney(?) (sorry, I've been away for a while) that has recommended quantities and colors that may assist in your calculations. |

Chips: 787 | | | Re: The Perfect Stack Size three denominations, 25/100/500.
300 chipset for each group buy.
assuming 8 people max:
100 25's, 120 100's, 80 500's allows for exact color ups for the 25's and the 100's.
This all assumes no rebuys.
12 25's
12 100's
7 500's
= 31 chips
chip distribution for a T5000 tourney with a start of 25/50 allows for a starting M of 67. (pretty typical)
And the 25/100/500 is pretty adaptable for your cash game on the side.
It would be hard to use five denoms and keep the chipset size down.
Is this your OP question?
If you really wanted five denoms you could pad the front with 100 5's and grab 40 1000's which would color up the 500's but then I have no idea what you would do with the fives.
I'm sure you already know this so I think I missed the point. |

300 seems to work fine.
And if the OP is gonna go whole hog on GB's this'll allow for some lasting buying power. |

= 31 chips | Why do so many people like playing with stacks sizes smaller than a limp you know what?
How about this for a stack.
80 $25=$2,000
20 $100=$2,000
4 $500=$2,000 |

Bad enough I gotta draft all day and then you want me to go home and push stacks of 80 into the pot? |

Chips: 167 | | | Re: The Perfect Stack Size As was sort of alluded to in some of your earlier responses, the real deciding factor here is how big a starting stack you prefer and, sort of hand-in-hand with that, how much change you want to make at the table (not to mention whether you want rebuys or not, etc.)
If your priority is that you want in on every group buy and, therefore, are looking for small (but feasible) sets, you could really do an 8 person no rebuy set with:
4 x 25 per player = 32 x 25
9 x 100 per player = 72 x 100
1 x 500 per player = 8 x 500
For a total of 112 chips. For 130 chips you could do the same thing for 10-max. This is the breakdown Foxwoods uses in their SnGs. 1500 starting stacks with 25/50 blinds to start...not the ideal blind structure, but you could push it a little and do:
8 x 25 per player = 64 x 25
8 x 100 per player = 64 x 100
1 x 500 per player = 8 x 500
1 x 1000 per player = 8 x 1000
that's 144 chips per set with T 2500 to start
Again, the goal with a breakdown like that is small (ergo more affordable) sets and hence more $$ to spend on a variety of chipsets.
If 5 denoms per set is really your goal AND you want to keep the total set small, etc., you could do:
5 x 5 per player = 40 x 5 total
3 x 25 per player = 24 x 25 total
4 x 100 per player = 32 x 100 total
1 x 500 per player = 8 total
1 x 1000 per player = 8 total
That's a T2000 start, with 10/20 blinds for 8 players and only 112 chips total, 5 denoms.
Obviously, if having lots of big chipsets isn't an issue, you can whole hog and just buy a mess o'300 or 500 chip sets. |

My biggest set has over 1800 chips and I still can't say it is perfect. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
