Chips: 3,421 | | | How do you stack? So when you buy in for a rack or two, (or three...) how do you stack?
20 high?
Classic "Pyramid / triangle"
Higher?
Same size stacks?
Multiple rows?
5 stacks of 20, just out of the rack?
Years ago, I used to always start the pyramid, and have now found myself just doing two rows, typically 25 high, then 30, up to 40 or 50, and adding stacks from there on out.

Sometimes I'll mix it up and go three rows 40 high.

But usually keeping the stacks in the 25 to 40 high range.
When I first sit down with a fresh rack, I start with 4 stacks of 25.
When I get down short stacked, I just keep two stacks in front of me. I mostly play cash games so I'll have one or two denoms in front of me. 5's and 25's with a toke stack on the side of 1's.
Once in a while, I'll tinker with the pyramid:

One thing I will never do is stacks of 10. For some reason, and I don't know why, but I've never understood stacks of 10.
So, how do you stack up? |

Chips: 5,846 | | | Re: How do you stack? Normally not a big concern for me but my stacks are either 10 or 20 chips depending on how many chip I have total. Any odd chips (except high values ones) go into a single loose stack I play with. As for aligning them, see below.

For limit I use stacks of 30 white. I just like it better than 20, looks more impressive I suppose. Since I just play 2-5 I stack all my reds in one stack and do my damndest to get it higher than my white stacks
For big-bet (homegames for now) I use stacks of 20. I'm still n00b enough that I don't want a hassle when someone asks me how much I have behind. With stacks of 20, I'm used to the math and I can stay much more calm.

Chips: 400 | | | Re: How do you stack? Stacks of 20, usually not more than three or four wide as we currently play on a pretty small octagon. Stacks of 10 if I'm short or just have big denoms. I keep my big denoms in front where people can see them (which is altogether too uncommon, and rude not to do IMO) and NEVER use the built-in chip trays. |

Or 40 like this:

Chips: 1,700 | | | Re: How do you stack? Stacks of 20 with amounts above on top between stacks, so each rack would give me 5 stacks of 20. Large colors in front, as is right an proper. If more than two colors low on the left. Just feels right to do it this way to me.
In my home game there's usually 3 colors (you could just do 2 but no one ever has asked even though I've offered).
