Chips: 2,614 | | | Bud Jones question Sorry if this is a dumb question; I've tried searching around (probably didn't use the correct search terms), because I'm curious about what the following means:
"They are beveled, [unlike] my favorite v7 BJs but still very nice."
Basically, what are v7 BJs, and why is it not so good to have a bevelled Bud Jones (and for that matter, what exactly *is* a "bevelled" BJ?) |

I believe the 'v' in v7 stands for version and denotes the version of the Bud Jones chip used. The Borgata and the Rio, WSOP are currently using version 7 Bud Jones in their casinos. Other versions of BJ feel or look different. I believe the bevelled Mirage Springs BJs are v6 or earlier. As far as one version being better than the other, that's a just a personal preference. |

This is a pretty good guide from GPI on their chips. The BJ v7 are explained in there showing the weights and varieties. |

But I appreciate everyone's answers. I'm learning a lot more about chips just by reading and asking than I thought I ever wanted to know. But it's definitely taking a toll on my paycheck... |

I gave you the $5 (though I have the extra $1), so I was just reminiscing over the image of the $5 that I took, after I read your post. The cool thing about the chips from the 2006 Midnight Rose Southwest Poker Tour and Rodeo, is that they have an interesting story behind them. I gotta do that again one of these days. |

Chips: 18,645 | | | Re: Bud Jones question Yes, those Golden Moons are V7 chips. Most have the middle-sized decal "B" (unlike the Borgatas, also V7 but with the smaller classic-sized "A" inlay). This V7-B is is the same chip that's used at the WSOP. Golden Moon also has a $5 grand opening chip (top right below) that's the large decal size "C" so maybe that's the one you have.
As far as beveling, Bud Jones chips were injection molded and then actually machined before being released. That is, any excess plastic from the molding process was removed by a cutting blade from a spinning chip, and the edges were beveled (rounded or cut at an angle) -- so the chips came out with highly finished edges and the exact same size/shape for all. I have no idea if they still do this machining process. It used to be done in Las Vegas, but they could have moved it to their main plant in Mexico. |
